Paint Shop Pro X2 not opening image with mouse double left click

I've installed the last version of PaintShop Pro that I have a license to which is X2 had to actually purchase a DVD external unit since my version is on disk and my newest laptop has no CD/DVDAnyway, the program runs perfectly and the only thing not working is when I double click a image file in file explorer or from my desktop etc., doesn't matter if it's jpg, gif, psp etc. Paintshop pro X2 opens itself up perfectly fine but the image fails to open with it. If I select open file from within X2 it opens the files fine but refuses to open the files by double clicking the files. The files

  2. Paint Shop Pro 7 not opening image with mouse double left click

    Hello, Paul Howard UK

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

Hello I'm sorry to hear that your problem with Paint Shop Pro 7 not opening images directly when you left-click and double-click in Windows 11 seems to be related to compatibility or permission settings.

Here are some suggestions I can offer you that may work:

    1. Run Paint Shop Pro 7 as Administrator:

Right-click on the Paint Shop Pro 7 shortcut icon or executable file.

Select Properties and go to the Compatibility tab.

Check the Run this program as an administrator checkbox, then click Apply and then OK.

Try left-clicking and double-clicking to open the image again to see if you can run it without prompting for permissions.

    2. Check file associations:

Make sure that JPG, BMP, and other image file types are properly associated with Paint Shop Pro 7.

Right-click on the JPG file and select "Open with...". Open with...". Open with... Open > select another application, then select Paint Shop Pro 7 and check the option to always open .jpg files with this application.

    3. Reset the default program:

Go to Settings > Applications > Default application.

Scroll down and click Select Default Application by File Type.

Find the file type (.jpg, .bmp) you want to open with Paint Shop Pro 7 and make sure it is set correctly.

    4. Compatibility Mode:

Right-click on the Paint Shop Pro 7 shortcut or executable file.

Go to the Properties > Compatibility tab.

Enable Compatibility Mode and select an earlier version of Windows that is compatible with Paint Shop Pro 7, such as Windows 10.

    5. Reinstall Paint Shop Pro 7:

Uninstall Paint Shop Pro 7 and reinstall it with the same compatibility settings as above.

Thank you for your time and effort to work on this topic.

    Best wishes

  3. Paint Shop Pro 7 not opening image with mouse double left click

Paint Shop Pro7 worked perfectly with Windows10. With Windows 11 if I double left click on a JPG, BMP or similar file it asks "Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device". If I say yes it opens PSP but does not show the image. I then have to go to File, then open or browse, to search for the image. I have ensured JPG and other files are set to open with Paint Shop Pro7 and ticked them in the PSP 7 program. Corel were not able to help when I phoned them as it is an old program. I love this version and don't want to upgrade. Any suggestions appreciated, thank you, Paul

Paint Shop Pro 7 not opening image with mouse double left click

    Hi Bobhe,

Thank you for that message, my wife (and I) found your kind comments very amusing, ha ha !

Once again, I really appreciate your help in getting my Paint Shop Pro 7, working perfectly again.

Despite being an old version with fewer bells and whistles ( a bit like me!) it still does everything I need

for image and photo editing. You're a star!

    Best wishes,

    Paul
