Windows 10: Panasonic Raw (RW2) files and OneDrive

I know the issue of Windows Explorer displaying RAW format files has been around a number of years but since the enhancements to OneDrive it has taken a new twist. Personally, I used FastStone Image Viewer without any problems. However, there is now a Gotcha if you subscribe to OneDrive. If you have your files stored in the cloud to be downloaded as and when needed as I have, any third party viewer has to download the files before it can display them unlike Jpegs thus negating any benefit.


I have complained to Panasonic and warned them that their response will decide whether I stick with them or change horses. So, seeing that I do not want to jump out of the frying pan into the fire, what manufacturers' RAW files are viewable in Windows Explorer and which ones are not, please.

Panasonic Raw (RW2) files and OneDrive

Windows 10 Explorer only supports viewing of JPG files in preview. All RAW files from any camera maker including Panasonic, Canon (which I own) and Nikon need a compatible viewer like FastStone Image Viewer, Canon Digital Professional. Adobe Lightspeed,
Adobe Photoshop.

The last operating system to support the previewing of RAW in explorer was Windows 8.1 in 2014.

It's not Panasonic's fault it's Microsoft's. You can blame it on the new smartphone's that all take decent pictures and you can share them easily.

 

Microsoft Codec Support for RW2 RAW Files

I would like to know if there is a Microsoft Camera Codec Pack that is compatible with Windows 8.1 , and allows the viewing of RW2 RAW images taken on a Panasonic Lumix GX8 Camera?
