Windows 10: Passport not detected

My passport has all of my important files and documents on it but for whatever reason is not being recognized by any computer I've used. My folders/documents are present but they are empty and when I try to access them it tells me that it's unavailable and to make sure the device is connected (it is) and that it may have been moved or deleted. I am the only person who has access to these programs. I am also unable to download anything else to my passport. I have verified that this is a problem with the specific device by inserting a usb that I purchased. Can anyone help me with this problem?

I'd recommend you to try using a different USB cable with it and see if that will help your system to detect it without it disconnecting.
I'd also suggest you to go to Disk Management and see how the drive is listed there. It won't hurt to check up on the health and SMART status of the HDD by running the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from the WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics. This issue could be due to the passport drive driver is outdated. Let’s try the simple steps to resolve the issue and check if t helps.

Method 1.

I would suggest you to run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter to diagnose the exact issue.

• 
  Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard and select Control Panel.
  
• 
  Type Troubleshooting in the search bar on the Control Panel.
  
• 
  Click on Hardware and sound under Troubleshoot computer problems.
  
• 
  Click on Hardware and devices under Devices.
  
• 
  Click on Advanced on the Hardware and devices dialog box and click on Run as administrator (Enter the credentials if required).
  
• 
  Click on Next and follow onscreen instruction complete the Hardware and devices troubleshooter.

Method 2.

This issue usually occur due to the driver is out dated. I would suggest you to update the Disk driver from Device Manager manually and check if this helps. Follow the below steps:

  Press (Windows key + X) and click on “Device Manager”.

  Expand “Disk drives”.

  Right click on the driver device and select
  update. Once update is done, restart the computer.
