Windows 10: Password change

Brought here today due to an intensely annoying new trick from Microsoft.

I could not login to my own computer today and nearly ran out of re-tries, before I realised that Mr Gates had changed my local machine password to be the same as my Microsoft account, probably because yesterday I expanded my activity to be more than just OneDrive and using MS Office apps - I went to the Microsoft Store (what a distortion of user-friendly site design and use !) and purchased an App.

So, what can I do ? I want my MS account at the store to have one PW and my local to have a PW which is something else entirely. Can someone tell me how to do this?

Until yesterday's opening of an account at the store I was able to have an entirely different password for signing in to Live account and to Outlook online.

While I am here, can anyone tell me the correct way to do a search on the MS Store ? I read about using Win+C, but that is not reliable and does not work if there is something on your computer which is same or similar named. One of the things I was referring to in the comment about the awfulness of the Store.

Changing Password Hint Without Changing Password

You can't get help, but you sure can get sympathy: I'm sorry, you can't change your password hint without changing your password.

BIOS is firmware to perform hardware initialization during the booting process and for pre boot configurations. CMOS is a battery that stores you BIOS settings. If you remove the battery and power off PC, the BIOS is reset to default. The battery prevents
this from happening when unplugged from A/C power.

CMOS is a coin battery that you see in watches, car fobs and many other gadgets and devices, but these are a little larger. Usually CR2032 battery is used on PC's.

 

I suggest you use a local account as your computer's sign-in option. After logging on to Windows 10 as local account, you should be prompted to type your email password to sign-in to Microsoft Store.

 

Yes, I figured it out a little later after posting. But how arrogant of MS to make the change and let me find out how to undo it ! Good practice should dictate that I be invited to make the change, with information on advantages/disadvantages. However, why should I imagine Mr Gates would encourage good practice.

Bill Gates hasn't touched Microsoft for some time. Thank Satya Nadella. I came here in hopes of solving my own issue but sadly, yours was different. My local policy has domain password complexity requirements even though it's not joined to a domain and the local security policy doesn't have those requirements defined... Thanks Satya!
