  1. Password for Documents/Files/Pictures

I have lot of documents on my computer. Such as openoffice word and openoffice excel documents. Basically any file on my computer whether its this a word or excel document or pictures or videos you can just click on it and open it without any issue.

Is there a way to put a password on certain documents on my computer? What about a folder with pictures? I did this last time with documents but for some reason, there were 2 of the same document. One required a password to open. The other however did not. I think i used either winrar or 7 zip. So basically it didn't do anything.

The other thing is what about pictures? Let say i have lots of pictures in one big folder. This folder then has subfolders inside etc. Is there a way to put a password on the main photos folder where you have to put a password in order to open it? But once you do, then you can click on any subfolders inside that main folder and open any picture without an issue? I tried this last time with winrar or 7zip and had similar problem. It would require you to put password but then it required you to put the password for every single photo... So its like this. Folder that is called pictures. Then inside pictures, i have lot of folders that are say folder a, b, c, d, e etc. I want to be able to then click on any of these folders then view pictures without having to type in that same password everytime. Because if it required a password to view each photo, then obviously no one will bother with this.

The other thing i thought was if i put a password for my local account as in before logging into my computer, would that be enough and none of this would be necessary? I have no password for my computer so when i turn it on, well everything is there.

Also would there be a quick option to turn off and then turn on the password require for these things? Or there isn't?

    :)

  2. User account problems after update in Windows 10

After an upgrade some months ago, we were asked for a password to get into the laptop's main user's (Amy's) account. We had not used a password previously. Because the main user's husband was doing the work and did not know his wife's (non-existent)
password, he used his own credentials. This created a problem; the only way to get to Amy's files was to log in as her husband and access the files through the network. We have now reset the passwords to get access through the C drive from Amy's screen, so
a big step closer. But we still are not able to access Amy's files directly as is customary, i.e that her documents are available in the File Explorer's "Documents" folder, and her pictures in its "Pictures" folder, and so on. Whatdo we need to do to make
this work simply as it did before?

What folder are you trying to copy? You should only copy folders inside your Documents, Pictures, or Videos folder, do not try to copy system files like "Windows' or "Program Files".

If you don't remember your password, here's how to Reset a Forgotten Windows Password

I think you've answered your own Q. Just set a password or 4 digit PIN so computer has to be signed-in to see any files. When you step away, you can quickly hit WinKey+L and lock device until pass or PIN are entered. Otherwise, you need some kind of password add-on and have to pick and choose files to protect. If you have others who have to use the computer, set up a Local Acct for them and they can't see your files w/o you signed-in.

Hi, there are many 'Hide folder' type programs around where you can use a password to lock or unlock the folders. However you have to be careful that the folders, when 'hidden' by such a program remain hidden when the disk is accessed from Safe Mode or from e.g. a boot disk.

You can use encrypted zip/rar etc files.

Then there are encrypted containers- which can be mounted like disks:

TrueCrypt is no longer supported/updated but it still works. Another alternative program and the one I now use to encrypt a file or folder is VeraCrypt.

As for setting a PIN, I believe you first have to set a password. I had to log into the computer using my Microsoft Account id/pw to be able to accomplish setting the PIN.
