Windows 10: Password not accepted - Locked Out!

Toshiba Satellite L50 C has been running at very high disk usage, so decided to try a reduced start via "msconfig" selecting "Diagnostic Startup".


After restart, entered correct password numerous times but it was not accepted. Tried "Forgotten Password" but that didn't take me anywhere to enable me to reset it!


Worst of all, it's a neighbour's laptop!


It's been a few years since I used this procedure, albeit on an XP PC and I never had this problem!


I think I know what the solution might be but I hope I'm wrong!

• Press the Windows key; then, select Settings.
• Click Accounts; then, Sign-In Options.
• Tap the Change button in the Password section.
• Re-enter your password; then, create a new password.

Safe Mode won't accept correct password

I'm trying to run a third party software (AVG Internet Security) cleanup file that recommends Safe Mode. Yet, when I get to the Safe Mode lock screen, it won't accept my password (note that I am entering the password, not the PIN - it's the same password that gets me into my Microsoft account). Any suggestions what I should try? I'm hesitant to run the cleanup file in full Windows since it's not recommended.

I am running windows 10 and on start up I enter my password for the lock screen but it will not accept it. I then restart the computer and enter the same password for the lock screen and it accepts it without any problem . Can anyone explain please . Thanks
