  1. Password problems after motherboard replacement

Long story short, my motherboard caught fire and I replaced it. Everything else is the same: processor, SSD, and even all my work and games still exist here, just with the little Windows Activation notification watermark in the corner. I know that you can re-activate Windows 10 by linking the product key to your account instead of the PC, but mine is not linked to my account and unfortunately the replacement was unexpected. When I try to go to Settings to activate Windows 10, it asks for my password, and despite me changing it, it asks a second time without the Forgot Password option and says that my password is incorrect. Is there a way I can just get past that so I can reactivate my computer?

    :)

  2. Password incorrect after replacing motherboard.

    Hi,

Thank you for being part of Windows 10 family.

Sorry to know that you are facing issues with Windows 10.

There is some confusion about hardware changes on a Computer that will impact their free upgrade activation status. To clarify, the ONLY hardware changes that can negatively impact a customer’s activation status once they have upgrade are changes to the:

    • CPU
    • TPM
    • Motherboard replacement
If you replaces the Motherboard they may have to re activate but this will not require a purchase of Windows 10.

You can try to perform a clean install.

I would suggest you to create a ISO file from the below Microsoft Help Article and try to reinstall Windows 10.

    Download Windows 10

Hope it helps. Get back to us for further assistance and we will be glad to help.

    Password problems after motherboard replacement

    Password incorrect after replacing motherboard.

W10 has been working great. Only problem so far is hidiing the task bar. However, I decided to replace my motherboard and that seemed to work fine until I tried to logon. Now it says my password is incorrect. Do I have to reinstall W10? Only the MB
    was changed.
