Windows 10: passwordless authenticator app

dumb M$. passwordless authenticator app - is M$ authenticator required to setup? it states "authenticator app" but then says "respond too" which implies you must have a push capable authenticator which I do not. I do not us M$ authenticator app because of this weak usage of approvals.

Do I still need two factor authentication with a passwordless account? It seems redundant considering the Authenticator is performing both functions. As you roll out the new passwordless account feature, perhaps it would be best to also turn off 2FA. What am I missing?

It also seems like a "Product" that could be listed in the topics selection could be for "Microsoft Account" questions. This question I have is not really Windows related, yet there is no better option. Just a suggestion.

 

Passwordless account but still receive authentication attempt

The problem isn’t what is more secure. The problem is with passwordless auth enable outside actors are just entering your email triggering Authenticator prompts multiple times a day on our phones. This is beyond annoying.

I will probably add a complex password back so they fail on that first step and stop sending prompts to the Authenticator app.
