Windows 10: PC Audio jack not always recognizing when something is plugged-in

PC - Dell Vostro 5090If I have my headphones already plugged in to my PC when I boot it up, everything has been fine so far, but it I unplug my headphones and then plug them back in later, my PC does not recognize that anything is plugged in. I have to restart my computer to get them to be recognized. I have run the audio troubleshooter with my headphones plugged in and it says that nothing is connected. I have deleted the Realtek audio driver twice and windows has automatically redownloaded it, I am not sure what else to do? I have had nothing but issues with this Dell PC and audio. I can't e

Does Windows log when you plug in / unplug an audio device from a 3.5mm jack?

When an audio device is plugged/unplugged from the 3.5mm jack, does Windows log that anywhere?

Not by default. You have to write an app to detect plug in/plug out. Note the jack has to support jack-presence detection.

You can extend the sample code to log to a file or create a custom user define event in the event log.

Suggestion:

• Add code to use your built in webcam to take a photo of the culprit.
  

 

My device won't recognize what I plug into the audio jack

Can anyone help figure out how I can get that pop up dialog box when i plug in a new device into the audio jack?

Window 10. Surface 3. It doesn't recognize that I've plugged in a microphone

 

Audio: No sound when headphones are plugged in to jack

I would also like to add that the Realtek HD audio manager recognizes that something has been plugged into the headphone jack but does not output any sound in spite of that.
