Windows 10: PC automatically hibernates, Win10 version 2004

Hello
After installing Windows 10 version 2004,
If I hibernate or turn off the computer, each time I press the power button to turn on the computer again,
After less than 20 seconds, the computer automatically hibernates.
The same thing happens when I turn on the computer again,
This cycle continues several times, After a few times, I can work with the laptop without any problems.
The number of times the computer automatically hibernates varies each time.
What can I do to solve this problem?
I have a Dell 5110 laptop and because my laptop battery is dead
I can not update the BIOS, other than that, what can I do to fix the problem?

laptop doesnt boot automatically

This is what happened.

1. Did a repair install and later disabled hibertnate in CMD.
2. Enabled legacy option ROM in BIOS.
3. After a few times startup ( i used the system in such mode for 5 days), changed boot option back to default.
4. Vola!! It boots automatically to win10 without any keypress. Tested it with many starts to confirm the same.
5. Re-enabled hibernate option using CMD and later selected Fast Startup.
6. System booted normally, without the need for any keypress.

I do not know exactly whether such steps resolved the problem or what else happened, hence cannot suggest above steps.

Hi,

It isn't a good idea to install a feature update that early especially when Legacy Hardware is concerned. Also, I have seen a number of issues with hibernation in ver 2004. You should have rolled back to Windows 10 1909 as you have hit the same.

I suggest you to download and install ver 1903/09 and reinstall.

Hello.

I have an old i4670 (Win10 Pro x64) which has been dead set reliable for 5 years or more ... until circa the Win10 2004 update.

The PC has always been set to hibernate when it's idle for 10 mins, to save power.

It's been reliable, like an atomic clock ... until now.

A java app and wakes it from hibernate by setting wake timers, to do certain things at certain all-over-the-place times of the day and where the wake-up times change every day.

Since the update, the PC only randomly wakes but more often than not stays in hibernate.

I've
- re-flashed the bios and reset its options
- wiped and fresh clean-installed Win10 Pro x64
- turned hibernate off and on loads of times
- checked powercfg -lastwake and powercfg -waketimers that the wake timers set do look ok (yes)
- tried using sleep instead of hibernate (no change, it remains in sleep)
- reset power scheme relevant settings (unset then set) to ensure they "stuck"
- checked Event Logs (nothing bad shows)

It just just doesn't wake reliably since the Win10 2004 update – more often than not it just stays asleep/hibernates.

Any one else experience anything like this after the Win10 2004 update ?

Advice would be appreciated.

I wondered if it was just old h/w – but to buy cheap bits and a win10 license costs circa AU$800 to AU$1,000 to get just about the same spec, even when re-using the old case, psu, gpu. Wow.
That's a lot of money to drop on just a hope new h/w would fix the not-waking-up issue.
