  1. PC Black Screen Crashing when I try to change Resolution/Refresh Rate or when I try to run...

Title basically says it all. My Computer crashes when I try to change Resolution & Refresh Rate or when I try to run most programs in full screen, although some seem to work just fine.

    CPU: i5-4670k @ 4.4Ghz

    GPU: RX 480 4GB VRAM

    RAM: 16GB DDR3

    MOTHERMOARD: ASUS Z87-K

    PSU: 550W Corsair

When I check the Event Viewer this is the error I get: Screenshot Imgur

I've been trying to fix this issue for the last 2 months with no luck, and it seemingly appeared out of nowhere. I might add that directly after booting my PC I am able to change the Resolution and Refresh rate but after a while if I try it again my display will go black, then it will lose signal and my PC will crash and shut down.

    Things I've Tried:

+Using the Windows ISO to repair Windows

+Fully wiping my GPU Drivers and reinstalling an older version when I didn't have the issue

+Setting my CPU to its default clock speeds

+Taking out my GPU to make sure all of the pins were clean and not broken

+I've contacted the AMD customer support team multiple times but received no response off them

    :)

  2. Refresh rate Problem

    Hi Robert,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Screen refresh rate is the rate at which the data displayed on screen is refreshed; it may be an image or some text document. Most of the users would like to set it to a higher rate but this also depends on the capacity of graphic
card and monitors. If the refresh rate is slow, the images on the display looks as flickering to the user eye and makes it uncomfortable to work.

Nowadays the latest monitors available in market will have minimum 60 Hz of refresh rate and it is very good option to set it to 70 Hz if you your monitor is compatible. Normally a high performance or quality monitors can reach
120 Hz of refresh rate. So I would suggest you to set your monitor refresh rate as higher as possible, below given steps describes how to access this feature on your Windows 8.1/10 PC.

    • The default refresh rate setting is 60 Hertz (HZ); however, your monitor may support a higher setting. Check your manufacturer's documentation for information about the settings that your monitor supports.
    • If you use a higher refresh rate, you can reduce the rate that your screen flickers; however, if you specify a refresh rate that is too high for your monitor, your screen may become unusable and your hardware may be damaged.
    • Changes to the refresh rate affect all users that log on to the computer.
I would, as of now, suggest you to visit the computer manufacturer's support website and install the latest display and chipset drivers available for the latest operating system (currently it would be 8.1 in the list).

Hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reply in case you face any other issues with Windows in future.

  3. Refresh rate is reset whenever the desktop resolution is changed

    Greetings for Norway

I've been a having a problem regarding resolution changes in Windows 10 Pro. I'm using a 1920x1080 @ 120Hz monitor. I'm also using two nVidia GeForce GTX 970s in SLI configuration. I've noticed that whenever I change the resolution in Windows my refresh
rate is always reset to 60Hz even though I've manually set it to 120Hz many times before. I've tried changing resolution by using nVidia Control Panel, in which case the refresh rate stays the same (at 120Hz) after the resolution change. This led me to believe
this might happen only when the change in resolution is handled by the OS, as I did not have this problem in Windows 7.

This is especially irritating when trying to use the nVidia Dynamic Super Resolution function in games which do not let me manually adjust the game's refresh rate. Everytime I turn on this supersampling-function the monitor resets it's refresh rate. This also
happens whenever I start up a fullscreen application that is not configured to run at native resolution. This makes me unable to use my monitors optimal refresh rate.

I was wondering if there is a solution to this problem. If not, is it possible to fix it in an upcoming update?

    Thanks

  4. PC Black Screen Crashing when I try to change Resolution/Refresh Rate or when I try to run...

How to set default refresh rate

I've no control in the resolutions dropdown, and of course I can select the exact mode I want from List all modes.

But what I'm trying to accomplish is for Windows to recognize 60hz as the default refresh rate when changing resolutions (when I'm not specifying the refresh rate).

That comes in handy when running applications (mostly games) which let you select resolutions but not refresh rates. And yes, those applications do support the resolution/60hz combination I want for them.

So that's why this thread is titled "How to set a default refresh rate". If it's no possible, then so be it. But I could swear that before the Windows Creator's update, changing resolutions didn't lower my refresh rate.
