  1. PC Caught in a Boot Loop After Updating Network Card Driver

    PC Specs:

    CPU: Intel i5

    Memory: 16gb Ram

    Storage: 4 tb HDD

    Graphics Card: MSI Nvidia 1050ti

    Network card: Asus PCE-AC56

So, this isn't the first time this has happened with the Network Card. When I first installed the card, I used the online updater directly from the asus website to install the necessary drivers since its generally regarded that the drivers on the disk that they provide are most likely out of date. When I did that, however, my PC would end up going into a boot loop every time I tried to re-start it. It has only ever done a boot loop when I install the newest software for the Network Card. So I decided to go with the drivers that were on the disk and I no longer had any boot loop errors.

Earlier this week I decided to do a complete fresh re-install of windows. I wiped everything from my drives and re-installed the OS on a new HDD. Naturally I needed to install the drivers for my network card again. At first I tried installing using the Asus driver installer however i once again ran into the boot loop issue. I tried installing from the microsoft driver downloads page I did use a 2015 driver and It ran fine for about 2 days, however today I booted it up and got the BSOD saying SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED with widwifi.sys being the culprit for the issue.

Is there something I'm doing wrong here or a driver that Microsoft could provide that covers this kind of network card since the ASUS drivers seem to just be messing up my system every time I install them.

I'm not sure if this will help but it looks like the BSOD error was very similar to this one: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/error-bsod-system-thread-exception-not-handled/6519216a-53ca-4702-9741-1ebd1ff82e1f
