Windows 10: PC crashes all the time, now stuck on driver update screen! Can’t even hard restart!

My laptop often crashes during very routine tasks. Done a hard restart, redownloaded the OS and now just tried driver updates. Whilst installing the latest firmware driver my PC has crashed and I can’t even hard restart it, it’s just sat on that screen whirring away! Please help!!! X

PC stuck in restart loop after latest update

To understand the issue better, I would like to ask some questions:

• Is the computer stuck in the Installing updates screen?
• For how long is the computer stuck in the screen?
• When was the computer last updated?
• Is the screen showing any percentage of installation?

Sometimes the installation might take a long time to install if the update is of large size. So, I suggest you to wait for sometime and check if the system boots to the desktop. If it is taking a longer time, then perform a Power Drain by following the steps
provided below:

• Shut down the Computer.
• Remove all power source (including battery if it is a laptop).
• Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
• Connect the power source and start the computer.
• After the computer boots to the desktop, suggest you to install all the pending updates.

• What is the make and model of the pc?

• What are the troubleshooting steps you have already tried?

I would suggest you to unplug all external devices connected to the pc and restart the pc to check if you are able to get to the desktop screen.


Ensure to plug in the power cord to the socket and check if you are able to get to the desktop screen.

After getting to the desktop screen, ensure to install any pending updates and also update all device drivers from Device Manager. Once this is done restart the computer to check the status.
