PC crashes once when playing a game or downloading large file and then is fine rest of the day

For the past month, I have been having a problem where when ever I boot up a game, the computer crashes a few minutes in, and then is fine for the rest of the night. Usually it crashes once and then doesn't crash again until the next day. When it does crash, the screen freezes but I can still hear audio, suggesting the computer is still running, but after a few seconds the audio cuts off as well and the computer is frozen until I turn it off and on again. Recently, it also did this when I was on chrome while downloading a 64gb game. I have had these problems in the past and a full wipe of my c

10 Crashing Randomly and During Updates and File Downloads

This is a re-post from here.

I have a Windows 10 PC that I run 24/7. I have Windows Updates disabled through the Group Policy Editor. I still perform updates manually every few days. Windows Defender updates work fine. Other Windows updates cause the PC to crash, no BSOD or anything, it just turns off. I've looked for 1074, 6006, and 6008 event log files to explain why and I haven't been able to find anything.

Other times the computer just randomly crashes and also sometimes when downloading files. The symptom is the same, I check on it and find it powered down or it just shuts off while I'm using it. It boots back up fine and I see no cause listed in the event logs.

I have been through the 3 tests suggested to me on the old thread. SMART looked good, memtest ran for 33 hours for 8 passes with no errors, and prime was run for 3 hours with no errors.

I think the next step was to run V2 Log collector, that data is attached.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Chris

  3. My PC crashed while playing a game and wiped my game folder. Can someone read the crashdump.dmp file and help me,

    Hello,iakr

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Based on the information provided in the crash dump file, it appears that the crash occurred while you were playing the game "A Plague Tale: Requiem" (APlagueTaleRequiem_x64.exe). The crash was caused by an access violation (ExceptionCode: c0000005), which means that the program attempted to write to an invalid memory address (0000000000000000) leading to a NULL_POINTER_WRITE_STRING_DEREFERENCE error in the VCRUNTIME140.dll module.

The specific source file responsible for the crash is "memcpy.asm" from the VCRUNTIME140.dll, and the line number is 40. This suggests that there might be an issue with memory copying (memcpy) operations, possibly due to corrupted data or an attempt to access a null pointer.

To identify the root cause and resolve the issue, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check for Game Updates: Ensure that your game is up-to-date. Developers often release patches to fix bugs and improve stability.
    2. Check Graphics Drivers: Make sure your graphics drivers are up-to-date. Outdated or corrupt graphics drivers can cause crashes in games.
    3. Verify Game Files: If you are using a platform like Steam, you can verify the integrity of the game files to ensure that none of them are corrupted.
    4. Check for Overheating: Monitor your PC's temperature while playing the game. Overheating can cause crashes. Make sure your system's cooling is working correctly and consider cleaning any dust inside the PC.
    5. Reinstall Visual C++ Redistributables: Since the crash is related to VCRUNTIME140.dll, reinstalling the Visual C++ Redistributables might resolve the issue. Go to the following article to download the Visual C++ component-<Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads | Microsoft Learn>

Keep in mind that debugging crash dumps can be complex, and the information provided may not always lead to an exact solution. If the problem persists after performing the above steps, please try to upload the newly generated DUMP log to the cloud disk and share the download link here, it will help us see how the problem manifests.
