Windows 10: PC crashes ramdomly - struggle to diagnose

Hello!I've been troubleshooting my PC for a couple of weeks. It's a self-built machine that was working absolutely fine. It randomly crashes and restarts. The LEDs on the motherboard and graphics card stay on. I've hypothesized a power fluctuation and got a UPS, but no dice. I've observed a more regular occurrence when using higher than normal bandwidth, switched to ethernet, no change. Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?

 

Diagnosing PC Crash

Hi,

I did a hard reset of my laptop after it began to crash when I tried to log in. It didn’t help the issue but everything seemed to be working smoothly after I went into Safe Mode. I then proceeded to go through the non-Windows apps in the msconfig command
prompt and it looked like unchecking some of those programs made my laptop function normally in its regular mode. When I went to re-download Google Chrome in regular mode, my laptop froze again and I woukd get a black screen when I restarted it. I did the
steps to turn it off then on (then off and on, etc.) to get to the Advanced Options screen but now its been stuck on “Diagnosing your PC” for quite a while. I’ve gone through this process several times and I’ve been able to find a way around this before but
I can’t seem to find a fix this time because I get a black screen with a loading cursor when I try to start it normally. Is there any way to resolve this problem? Thanks.

 

Diagnosing a system crash

Hello,

This computer is crashing and failing to produce minidumps. This computer had been operating in a stable way for the past three years, and it was already used then. This happens some days (up to five times), not on others, and using any software or not.

Config:

W10 Pro, 1803

AMD A8

The description of the issue is:

• The screen immediately goes from black
• The screen shows the bootup screen.

I can also "hear" this happen since the fans blow hard during post. Since I enabled minidumps (~3 weeks ago) there have been no dumps saved, even though there were crashes. In the Reliability Monitor it shows that there are "Critical events: Windows was
not properly shut down". Without a minidump to help diagnose the issue, I feel lost.
