Windows 10: PC ethernet connection does not work at apartment

So, I have a very interesting problem with my ethernet at my apartment. My PC can not detect that an ethernet cable is plugged into my computer unless I alter the 'speed & duplex' setting. Afterwards, it says that the 'ethernet does not have a valid IP address'. The part that is confusing me and some tech support people from the ISP at my apartment complex is that every other device I connect to the ethernet works. Plus, I tried to connect my pc to the ethernet at my mothers house and it worked perfectly first try while keeping the 'speed & duplex' setting at 'auto negotiation'. I am a

Ethernet shows red X and does not appear in settings, but still works


Not sure why this is happening. I have working ethernet and am connected, it works fine. But the taskbar icon shows a red X over it, and the tooltip says "Not Connected - No connections are available". Looking in "Network & Internet", ethernet is not even listed there. And before anyone suggests wireless interference .. this PC does not have a wireless card or integrated wireless.

To better understand the query, please answer the following questions:

• After restarting is your computer in normal mode or not?
• Are you getting any error message?

I suggest you to reset the modem\ router and check if the Ethernet connection works or not.

If still the issue persist then I suggest you to follow the steps from the below article

Are you using an Insider build? This is a known issue in one recent one (can't remember which one). I believe the latest preview build fixes it.
