Windows 10: PC ethernet not working

My pc is unable to connect to the router provided by my ISP. Other devices xbox and laptop are able to without any issues. Thought it might be something hardware related to the pc built it a few months ago, so I took it to my mothers house to try on her router and it works perfectly.When I try to connect with my router it does not even detect that an ethernet cable has been connected unless I alter the 'speed & duplex' value. Even then, it gives me the error that the ethernet does not have a valid ip address.

Ethernet shows red X and does not appear in settings, but still works


Not sure why this is happening. I have working ethernet and am connected, it works fine. But the taskbar icon shows a red X over it, and the tooltip says "Not Connected - No connections are available". Looking in "Network & Internet", ethernet is not even listed there. And before anyone suggests wireless interference .. this PC does not have a wireless card or integrated wireless.

Anyway everything works fine except for the ethernet port. Under device manager it is listed as "Ethernet Controller", under the category of "unknown devices" (along with several other unknown devices).

Hi FreeBooter, I already came across this article and followed the steps with no results, I came across other articles that suggested the same steps but still nothing has worked? Thanks for the reply.
