  1. PC fails to boot when I change PCIe Lanes to x16 - Bugcheck

Windows is failing to boot when my PCIe for my GPU is set to use the default setting of x16 Auto in the BIOS. If I change the Bifurcation in the BIOS to 8x8 lanes it works fine and no problems. When I check the Event Viewer when the PCIe is set to x16 I get the following:The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000124 0x0000000000000004, 0xffffc60bf8e9b028, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000. A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\Minidump\042323-8328-01.dmp. R

  2. Understanding PCIe lanes for multiple GPU setup

As the title suggests, I am looking to expand my current computer to have multiple GPUs (for mining). Essentially, I want to limit the upfront cost of my investment and therefore I would like to use my current desktop as the mining platform (it will save me from buying another cpu, motherboard, HD, RAM, etc...). Essentially I am having trouble understanding what is possible from the PCIe standpoint.

I currently have an HP Omen (Windows 10) with the Odense2-K motherboard and an i5-7400. There is already a GTX 1060 3GB GPU installed in the PCIe x16 slot and I would like to use the additional PCIe x1 slot with a PCIe expander to add an additional 3 GPUs with a separate power supply for mining cryptocurrencies. From what I have read online, there isn't any clear answer on whether this is possible. Many people have said it worked for them but it will depend on the PCIe lanes available in the motherboard/CPU. I know the CPU has 16 PCIe lanes but I can't find anything on the motherboard.

    So my question is twofold:

How can I tell how many lanes are available on the motherboard?

How many lanes will each GPU require? I will be using one GTX 1080 and two GTX 1080ti and want to keep my GTX 1060 just like it is.

    Motherboard manual PCIE nonsense.

The PCIe x1 slot has 18 pins and only 1 Lane involved.
The PCIe x16 slot has 82 pins and 15 Lanes.

So, I would guess that putting a PCIe x1 in a PCIe x16 would only affect one Lane. Namely, Lane 0.

Now, as to whether that particular Lane is one of the Lanes that shares SATA ports... who knows.

But I also, suggest you use the PCIe x1 slot if at all possible.

PC fails to boot when I change PCIe Lanes to x16 - Bugcheck

Is there a way to determine the number of PCIe lanes my system has and uses

With a core i9-9900K and an ASUS MPG Z390 GAMING PRO CARBON AC/ MPG Z390 GAMING PRO CARBON motherboard, is there a way to determine how many PCIe lanes my system has?

With an ASUS Geforce RTX 2080 installed and allegedly running in x16 mode and an ASUS XG-C100C 10G PCI-E Network Adapter fitted in, is there a way to determine how many lanes are being used?

Lane usage solutions are welcome for both Windows and Fedora.

Using a PCIe x1 card in a PCIe x16 slot: Here is something I recently found out. I have tired this and it works. You can use a PCIe x1 card, or a PCIe x4 card in a PCIe x16 slot. They work fine. So if you think you are short of PCI-e slots, you may not be. A shorter PCIe card works fine in a longer slot. On...
