  1. Pc Fan is Revving While Gaming After Updating to Windows Pro Version 1909

Please help! I bought a Dell XPS 8920 PC a couple of years ago to play a specific game, The Sims 4. It worked perfectly until I updated to the 1909 version of Windows Pro. Now my fan revs up really loud and my PC heats up to the point that I feel that my PC will be damaged if I continue to play. This has rendered my PC unusable for me since this was the purpose of my purchase. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

By the way, I didn't realize you only had 10 days to revert to a previous version. What the heck?

    :)

  2. Windows 10 April 2018 Update (1803) causes my PC Fan to continually start and stop

I too have this issue in my Inspiron One 2330 - I've cleaned the fan vents and updated the bios of the PC. I have an SSD and is running the latest firmware. I've attempted all items listed above.

No change, the fan keeps revving.

  3. Windows 10 Update - PC Fan on my Dell Inspiron 2330 revving all the time

    Hi Antony,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

From the issue description, I understand that your PC fan is running fast. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. We will help you to resolve the issue.

    1. Does your PC overheat?

    2. Do you get any error message on the computer?

Please check if the issue persists in safe mode.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/change-startup-settings-in-windows-10#v1h=tab02

    Step 1:

I suggest you to update the graphics card driver from manufacturer website and check if it helps.

If the issue persists even after updating the driver, I suggest you to check whether the cooling fan is working fine. You can refer to the following steps to prevent the computer from overheating.

    Step 2:

I would suggest you to check with the following steps to try and resolve overheating issues:

    a) Clean air vents and check if air fan is working or not.

    b) Use some software, then, check if your system's fan is working at right speed.

    c) Do not use your notebook/laptop on a surface that block air vents.

    d) Thermal pads might be burnt. Try replacing them with new one.

    e) There might be some fault with the hardware. You can get it checked with professional expert.

    f) Adjust power settings to your needs. Lower energy consumption will result lower heat generation.

    g) Never leave operating laptop with closed lid. This always generates heat inside laptop. You may close lid only if laptop will automatically go into sleep or hibernation mode.

    h) You may also try installing latest software and drivers from the manufacturer website.

Hope this helps. Please post back if the issue persists and we will be glad to assist you further.

User.000 issue after updating to 1909

I'm one of the many people suffering from issues with user profiles after applying Update 1909 to Windows 10. I've read all the threads I can find on the topic here and have followed the suggestions, all to no avail. Any other thoughts are appreciated.

After applying Update 1909, the ProfileImagePath was changed to c:\users\User.000
One file that was always in use and couldn't be removed was left in c:\users\User (can't recall or find the exact file now), so I could never rename or remove the c:\user\User directory.

I followed the multiple suggestions from Brink and others:
    • Rebooted at least 6 times
    • Enabled hidden Administrator
    • Booted into Safe Mode
    • Changed ProfileImagePath
    • Tried to rename c:\users\User but couldn't because a file was still in use
    • Copied all data from c:\users\User.000 into c:\users\User
    • Rebooted and had temporary profile
    • Followed steps in Brink tutorial to change ImageProfilePath; rebooted with no change
    • Restored using Restore Point from before Update 1909 - returned to single profile state (User.000)
    • Removed each update that was installed individually and rebooted after each update removal - profile state never changed
    • After all updates were removed, repeated the steps above with hidden Administrator, changing profile, etc. - same issue with file in use in c:\users\User
    • Followed all steps above with hidden Administrator but without copying files from User.000 to User - same results

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
