PC Frames Drop/Capped, and Screen Freezes

I've had this computer a little over a year, and haven't worked it that hard at all. I have decently great specs for what I'm trying to accomplish on my PC, but it's just not performing at the rate it should. I came from a really bad laptop, so at first I thought the underperformance was the max of the PC at the time and was just glad to come away from the 30 fps mess I transitioned from. I try playing games like VALORANT that aren't spec heavy, and my PC can't keep up. I am usually stuck at a max of 200 fps, but during gameplay I'm hovering between 140-160 and occasionally drop to 80 fps. Ma

Screen Sharing freezes on still frames for long periods of time

    Thank you for your reply

    • l am accessing the desktop PC version of Skype that l downloaded from Skype.com website
    • This is a Skype specific issue l have, and happens when people share their screen with me. This experience among every other is in a call l experience this with is with 3 people including myself.
    • Only the Share screen section is getting frozen (in a still frame) not the entire Skype window.
    • lssue only exists when screen gets shared to me. There are a few instances where Share screen works perfectly fine with an occasional 3 second freeze here and there, but normally l usually get freezes that last up to 10 minutes (by than l usually end/re-join
      the call)

l am wondering if this has something to do with my Connection Speed being "Unknown"

    frames freezing

    Hello,

Regarding the issue of "frames freezing"... I had the same problem with my high-end built and could not understand the frame freezing every couple of seconds, especially in light of the specs of my computer: i5-9600K, ASUS ROG Strix Z390-E, 16GB Corsair
DDR4 4133 memory with an ASUS ROG GTX1660S graphics card. It turned out the problem was having a picture slide show as my desktop background. I went in to settings and made my desktop background just a simple color...in my case, purple. I have not had any
frames freezing at all, since then. I tried a hundred fixes before this, to no avail. Generally speaking, if nothing works, a fresh Windows(R) install will solve my problems 99% of the time. I am not suggesting you do this, though and, if you do, make sure
you back up all your files first. Lastly, if the above doesn't help, press Ctrl+Alt+Del and look in task manager to see if Error Reporting (werfault.exe) is showing up every three seconds...I had a problem with frames freezing with that, too. I had to reinstall
Windows(R) with that one, as I failed to find a fix anywhere. Good luck

DirectX 9 titles have frame cap stuck on

If you're experiencing frame rate caps on DirectX 9 titles even though you've disabled vsync, frame rate sync, and frame limiters, there are a few potential reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to resolve it:

    1. **Check Game Settings:**

Ensure that in-game settings for each DirectX 9 title have vsync and frame rate caps disabled. Each game may have its own settings, so review them carefully.

    2. **Check AMD Radeon Settings:**

Verify that in the AMD Radeon software, any global settings or game-specific profiles have vsync and frame rate limits turned off. Sometimes, individual game profiles can override global settings.

    3. **Update Graphics Drivers:**

Make sure you have the latest graphics drivers for your AMD Radeon graphics card. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause compatibility issues with older DirectX versions.

    4. **Try Compatibility Mode:**

Right-click on the game's shortcut or executable, go to "Properties," and under the "Compatibility" tab, try running the game in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows. This can sometimes resolve issues with older DirectX titles.

    5. **Modify DirectX 9 Files:**

In some cases, you can modify DirectX 9 files to adjust frame rate settings. This is an advanced step, and it should be done with caution:

    a. Locate the DirectX 9 files for the game. They are often found in the game's installation directory.

    b. Look for a configuration file, INI file, or a similar file related to graphics settings. Open it with a text editor.

    c. Search for settings related to frame rate or vsync and modify them if available.

Be very cautious when editing configuration files, as making incorrect changes can affect the game's stability.

    6. **Third-Party Frame Rate Limiter:**

Consider using third-party software like RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS) to limit your frame rate. Even if you have vsync and frame rate sync disabled, some games may still be impacted by their own internal frame rate caps.

    7. **Check for Game Patches:**

Search for any patches, updates, or community-made mods that might address frame rate cap issues in specific DirectX 9 games. Some older titles have fixes created by the community.

    8. **Verify Monitor Refresh Rate:**

Ensure that your monitor is set to its maximum refresh rate in the Windows display settings. Some monitors have options for different refresh rates.

    9. **Consider a Virtual Machine (VM):**

If all else fails, you could try running the DirectX 9 titles in a virtual machine that emulates an older version of Windows. This can sometimes bypass compatibility issues.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, and you're confident that you've checked all possible settings and options, you may want to consult the community forums or support channels for the specific games you're experiencing problems with. Other players might have encountered similar issues and found solutions.
