Windows 10: PC freeze within 30sec of boot, works fine in safe mode

Hi there,

Having an issue with my Laptop, running win 10 pro.

Freezing in less than 30 secs of boot normal boot.Safe mode works fine where I have tried to run sfc now issue found.

So here is a quick list of what I have so far tried

• Boot to safe mode sfc /scannow no issue found
• Tried a clean boot(disable all no MS services) and reboot
• Sign in under a new user account
• Read logs but nothing seen freezing seem to not write any logs.
• Memory test passed
• chkdsk passed
• run windows repair off disk
• Sure there is more than I can not think of at the moment as my brain is ready to sleep
• System Restore
• Startup Repair

I am thinking it might be a driver based issue due to working fine when in safe mode but haven't updated any drivers.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

When I boot into safe mode, the issue doesn't appear... "Control panel" works fine.

 

Windows 10: Freezing after boot

Most of the time that I turn on my computer it will freeze within 5 minutes. This started in November. I've updated all drivers, scanned for viruses, went back to Windows 8 (ran fine), reinstalled Windows 10, clean booted, had Microsoft Support connect to
my PC and do what ever they did (after that it worked for a week without freezing), and did some more. But the only way it never freezes is in Safe Mode. This is ridiculous, I need my PC to work, I like Windows 10. Maybe I can take my PC to the local Microsoft
Store and have them figure it out. Please help.

Since you haven't updated any drivers I would check the hardware that is not used during safe mode but is during normal mode. It could be either a true hardware failure or a corrupted driver. I would sequentially uninstall each hardware item that is not in use during safe mode in device manager (uninstall the device and delete the driver). Then allow Windows to reinstall the device. If that does not correct the issue, I would remove each hardware item not in use in safe mode and see if Windows will boot to normal mode. Just a suggestion...

When something works fine in Safe mode but does not in normal mode it usually points to a non-Microsoft driver which is misbehaving. So you are right in thinking it is a driver issue. I would make sure you visit the manufacturer website for your motherboard and any other devices to ensure that all the drivers are up to date.

Please can you fill in as many details as possible about you system in the system spec area of your profile.

If you want to provide some system logs you can provide the file requested for BSOD problems see: BSOD Posting instructions. This might help us track down any issues from the event logs.

 

Would the BSOD logs be of any help will collected them when I get a chance but the PC does not blue screen just s up and does not respond.

 

Yes, they provide additional logs not just the bsod mini-dumps.

 

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:


1) winver (in the pop up about windows > view your windows version and build > type this information into the thread)


2) sfc /scannow


3) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth


4) chkdsk /scan


When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on copy > paste into the thread


5) msconfig (in the pop up system configuration > move the dot from normal startup to selective startup > uncheck load startup items > click service tab > in left lower corner check hide all Microsoft services > in the lower right side click disable all > click apply or ok > do not reboot)


6) taskmgr (in the pop up task manager > click on the start up tab > click on status so that the column sorts with enable rising to the top > right click on each row with enable and change to disable)


7) shutdown /r (you will reboot the computer so that it is in clean boot)

When you post the bsod zip file we can view event logs, msinfo32 etc. that may have information about the hangs
