Windows 10: PC freezes on logo after restart

Hi,


I have laptop ASUS G501VW and I'm on Windows 10 Pro release preview channel.

Since update to build 19042.487 when i send system to restart it is not loading after logo appears, had to press once power button to force stop machine, then it loads ok.

Tried to recovery system in safe mode and many other options but no luck, it only fixes if i come back to previous one build 19042.450 clean installation. If i do clean installation of build 19042.487 the problem repeats again.


Tried to update BIOS firmware and change some settings in it, but no luck


Installed every new build after 19042.487 and all of them not fixing my problem.


Please advise if anyone had same issue or know solution

Windows Boot Logo Freeze

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community.

Are you able to get into Windows or does it freeze on Boot logo?

Try to start the system in Safe Mode and try to update display drivers.

Also, place the system in Safe Mode and check if it works fine.

1. Restart your PC. When you reach the sign-in screen, hold the Shift key and select the Power button, and then select Restart.

2. After your PC restarts, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options >Startup settings > Restart. After your PC restarts, you should see a number of options. Press 5 or
F5 for Safe Mode with networking.

Try to update your Display Driver.

To update your display driver, you'll need to uninstall your current display adapter, and then check for driver updates.

• Right-click the Start button. Click on Device Manager.
• Expand the Display adapters section, right-click the listed adapter, then select Uninstall. Select the Delete the driver software for this device check box, then select OK and restart your PC.
  
• After your PC restarts, press the Windows logo key.
• From Settings, select Update & security>Windows Update>Check for updates.

Windows 10 Freezes at Logo on Restart

When restarting, for any reason (manual, program install, update, etc) the boot freezes at the logo screen with the spinning dots. It only happens on restart, booting from off never has this problem.

 

Windows 10 hangs/freezes on Restart

If this happens even during installation, that means that it is probably a hardware issue. To troubleshoot the problem, I suggest doing the following steps:

1. Install Hard Disk Sentinel and use it to check your HDD/SSD for problems.
   
2. Use MemTest to make sure that your RAM is ok. Here is a how to - guide.
   

After You done these two steps, give a feedback of the results.
