Windows 10: PC freezes when trying to connect to WiFi

My PC freezes when trying to connect to WiFi on the login in screen and when I try to connect to the Internet it freezes then bluescreens

• Yes, the laptop is connected to internet via Wifi.
• There are no error messages shown before freezing.

We would like to isolate this issue that you're having right now. We suggest that you try the steps below:

• 
  Go to Network and Sharing Center.
  
• 
  At the right pane, click Change adapter settings.
  
• 
  Right click on your connection name (WiFi name) and Properties.
  
• 
  Click the Configure... button.
  
• 
  Go to Power Management tab.
  
• 
  Uncheck/disable the radio button for "Allow this device to turn off this device to save power".
  
• 
  Restart the PC (Important)

Assigning a default WiFi connection

Is there any specific way to force Windows to connect to a certain WiFi connection?

Since my PC keeps connecting to a commercial WiFi hotspot rather than to my home network when it boots.

Things I have tried:

• "Connect to suggested WiFi hotspots" has been turned off
• Home network has been set to "connect automatically" when connecting
  
• Hotspot networks have been "forgotten" in the WiFi settings

Is there anything else I can try to fix this problem?
