PC freezing; no BSOD (Kernel-Power 41)

Been getting random freezes for the past month now and it's really annoying. Because they're not related to BSOD, I am getting no dump files to analyze. Event Viewer is useless too.

The freezes aren't really that consistent; they happen maybe 6 hours apart from each other. They can happen when I'm simply browsing the internet or when I'm playing games. I have to manually restart my PC because Windows 10 becomes completely unresponsive during this time. I've tried many things to locate the culprit:

    • Did a fresh install of Windows 10
    • Reseated RAM
    • Ran MemTest86 overnight; no errors
    • Changed power settings (only because this helped others, but didn't help me)
    • Changed SSD settings (only because this helped others, but didn't help me)
    • Defaulted overclock values
    • Updated BIOS to current version
None of these worked for me. I'm stuck. My PC has premium parts in it too so I highly doubt its a PSU or motherboard problem, but I don't know. Before you ask, my CPU temps are fine even directly before the crashes. Also I haven't had malware or anything related to that on my PC in years.

    How do I fix this?

Update the Realtek RTL8723BE Wireless LAN to version 2023.34.0430.2016:

As far I can see you have only had one BSOD so your statement is misleading. You have had quite a number of unexpected shut downs as demonstrated by the list below:

    Critical 05/02/2017 03:20:16 Kernel-Power

The two events highlighted in blue relate to the BSOD, the remainder are unexpected shutdowns. How do you deal with the situation when the computer freezes?

Your hard drive is a Western Digital Model WDC WD10S21X-24R1BT0-SSHD-8GB. The thread below on the Lenovo Community forum details numerous complaints about this hard drive model installed on the Lenovo Y50-70:

It seems that the hard drive is most likely the underlying cause of your problems.

Please note for optimal system performance you need to have 25 gb free disk space on the C partition.

You have no way of knowing that.
@VHeroes, please run the BSOD Posting instructions even though you are not having BSOD problms. They will give a lot of other info that may help. BSOD - Posting Instructions - Windows 10 Forums

Next please right click on the start icon and select Command prompt administrator, give admin permissions and copy/paste this into the window that opens and press enter sfc /scannow . If you decide to type it in, please notice the space between the sfc and the /. We want it to say no integrity violations were found. If it says there where corrupt files that could not be repaired, please reboot and run it again. You may have to run it 3 times with reboots in between each time.

Make sure your SSD is on the latest firmware.
