PC Goes Black When Waking from Sleep - Help!

When my PC wakes up from sleep the monitor goes black. And most times when this happens the only thing visible is the last program I used. All other programs I cant access. Everything else is dark. How do I fix this?

    :)

Keyboard and mouse cannot wake the computer after sleep

I did run troubleshooting for power in System and Security, and it detected that the time before display goes to sleep is too long (and that it was fixed). But the keyboard still cannot wake the pc after sleep.

However, during the time that the on/off button of the display is white when going into sleep (then having a black screen), the keyboard is able to wake the pc. Only when the on/off button of the display is orange, the keyboard cannot wake the pc anymore.

  3. Windows 10 sign in when PC wakes from sleep

When I "tell" my PC to sleep, then wake it, I get the lock screen and must sign in. But when the PC goes to sleep automatically (when I've been away) and then I wake it, it goes directly to the desktop without requiring me to sign in. But I have set
it to require sign in when waking from sleep. This is apparently not working.

Check the Powercfg energy report for any S3 issues. This happens when Windows installs a non compatible ACPI driver that your Bios does not like.

Also check Bios settings to make sure it is still set for proper S1/S3 states.

Hi. When I try to bring up Powercfg.exe the window is brought up for a split sec then disappears. What do you suggest?

That is because you are not telling it to run the Energy report. If you run it in the System32 directory, it will save the file in the system32 directory. You need to open a Command Window as Administrator and then change to your user document directory and to get the switches available for powercfg you would enter at the prompt in the open window "powercfg /energy report. The Command Window stays open until you close it.

Then just go to your My Documents directory and click on the html file and it will open in your web browser showing you everything that Powercfg has recorded, including any issues.

Powercfg is a command line utility. If you try to run one of these from the 'run' box or from the Cortana/Search box it will launch a command prompt window, run, then close the window when it finishes.

To see what's going on you need to open the command prompt first, type the powercfg command there then press the Enter key. Type powercfg /? to see its 'Help' info. Open a command prompt by a right-click on Start then choose 'Command Prompt', for some powercfg options you may need to use the administrative command prompt 'Command Prompt (Admin)'.

I did as you asked. I opened a cmd prompt at admin level. Then I entered your command: "powercfg /energy report" (without quotes). Then I get an error message in the cmd prompt. Take a look at the screenshot attached.

Actual syntax is Powercfg /energy. If you want to specify a different name or location for the report file, you can use the /output parameter.

Sleep states allow the computer to enter low-power modes after a period of inactivity. The S3 sleep state is the default sleep state for Windows platforms. The S3 sleep state consumes only enough power to preserve memory contents and allow the computer to resume working quickly.
