  1. PC keeps disabling all peripherals at random without shutting off

It seems to happen at random times, and it doesn't matter what I'm doing (although it usually happens soon after startup from Hibernate or Shutdown). My screen locks up, the keyboard and mouse stop responding, and the monitor loses signal. My external hard drive and wireless headset dongle also stop working. If I press a button on the keyboard, it lights up while the button is pressed, and shuts off when I release the key. During all of this, the motherboard and fans are still running on the PC, and the only way to shut it off is to hold down the power button or turn it off at the PSU. Why is this happening, and how do I stop it from happening?

    Specs:

    ASRock A320M-HDV motherboard

    AMD Ryzen 5 2600 processor

    AMD Radeon RX 580 GPU

Crucial Ballistix Sport 3000 RAM, 16 GB

    Thermaltake 500W PSU

    Seagate BarraCuda 500GB internal SSD

Western Digital My Passport 2TB external HDD (USB3 on mobo)

Asus VH236 monitor (HDMI on RX580)

(Future) Asus VE278Q monitor (DP on RX580)

Turtle Beach Stealth 400 headphones (USB2 on front panel)

Unknown brand mouse (assumed to be Maxxter, rebranded as Skytech) (USB2 on mobo)

Unknown brand keyboard (assumed to be China Resource Semico Ltd, rebranded as Skytech) (USB2 on mobo)

At this point, I believe it might be a bad signal from the keyboard that causes the peripherals to shut off. If that's the case, I have a spare keyboard if needed. Any help is appreciated.

  2. Keeps either restarting or shutting off peripherals (the previous system shutdown at on was unexpected)

my pc keeps either restarting or shutting the peripherals off on its own. checked event viewer got "the previous system shutdown at on was unexpected" before shutting down system gave warnings that stated " The application-specific permission settings do
not grant Local Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID". prior to posting i tried resetting my system and replacing psu.

    Any help would be apreciated.

  3. Random shut-down

    Hi Vijay

Thanks for all your efforts. I have failed to zip the files you want, but hey, I'll keep trying.

However, somewhere in the Microsoft Community I remembered seeing some suggestion about an application which seemed to be causing trouble. It was called something like "Advanced System Management. So, I located this file (with difficulty!) and, what the
heck, deleted it. I then found that my PC was shutting down regularly, in fact at the times given in the Power Management. So, I set those times to "Turn off the screen after 1 hour" and Turn off the computer after NEVER" My PC hasn't shut down now for about
twenty-four hours, and it's still running.

Goodness knows what other problems I may have created by deleting that application but my random shut-down seems to have been cured.

    Thanks again for your efforts.

    Best wishes

    Trevor Bailey.

  4. PC keeps disabling all peripherals at random without shutting off

    Random Shut offs

    So...Some backstory.

Couple weeks ago, on windows XP, my pc ran fine. No random shut offs, no problems, nothing. My friend gets me a new 500 GB HDD and a SATA cord to use with it. I took this as a sign to finally get Windows 7 (as i needed a big enough HDD to save my files from my 320 OS installationd HDD onto, since my 160 was not only not big enough, but practically full already).
So I transferred files, and completely wiped my 320, and installed Win7 on my 320 HDD. Bout a week after that, I had to replace my dying 20 inch. Bro was willing to get me a 32 inch that was on sale. Only desk in my room that could fit it had my PC on it, but where my old PC was at was a desk that could hold my PC. Thus, the location for my old TV and consoles became my PC area, and my PC area became my TV and console area. Thus, unplugging, moving stuff around, replugging.
The first few days everything was fine...Then a random shut off while playing JC2. I thought maybe it was overheating, so I left it off. A few days to a week later (I forget exactly how long) it shut off again, mid SC2 and mid speech on vent. Yesterday morning it shut off for the 3rd time in bout a total of 3 weeks of being in it's new location. Each time I was playing a different game (JC2, SC2, and HoN), each time the PC had been on anywhere from a few minutes/half an hour to a day or day n a half. Each time I had been in the current game for different lengths of time. I cannot seem to find anything in common among the games, nor anything similar about the 3 situations.

I checked my Temp barely a minute or 2 after the 2nd shut off with SC2; GPU was 65 C. Now, being an 8800 GTS, it reaches up to 80c, and indeed on XP it went up to that on Furmark and stabilized when my bros friend ran it fullscreen. It did the same when I tried it after the 2nd shut off and I tested Furmark on win7. My bros friend and I actually found out, from what we can tell, the 8800 gts can handle up to 100 c before it's threshold is reached. And I also tried something with an external fan I use to try n help with a bit of extra cooling, and it's kept my GPU a few C cooler at all times from idle to hard use, with no change in the shut offs, so I presume it has nothing to do with my PC overheating.

When I rejoined my HoN game, one of my teammates actually offered some interesting ideas; it could be a PSU issue. My bro's online friend (Also a much bigger techie and computer expert than I) agreed, and offered a few more suggestions...
    So from what I understand, the only possible explanations at the moment for this issue are;
    GPU Drivers,
Faulty/Dying GPU (it IS sorta old),
Faulty/Dying PSU (Barely a year old, I bought it last march brand new from Newegg when I asked this very forum for parts advice)
Faulty/Dying Memory (Also the same as the PSU)

I can try running memtest next time my friend is over with his laptop (it can write DVDs.).

As for the drivers, the problem has exhibited itself on both the 275.33 and the 270.61 drivers, and I can say that of the past 6-10 months, I never ran into this problem on my XP installation with either the 266 OR the 270 drivers, or any earlier ones, so I think its unlikely to be video drivers. (I feel I should mention it feels/seems similar to an overheating issue I had back when I first got this pc up n running last june, but taking off one of the panels and using that external fan, as well as running the GPU fan at a constant 100%, fixed overheating issues. It used to idle at 60-67 C instead of the 52-54 I have it at now :/ Also, I've got 2 80 mm and a 140 MM fan as well as the external fan and the fans that individual parts have...)

One last thing; When the shut off occurs, the monitors lights will go to orange (As if the PC is 'offline' or in 'standby'), but the tower is still 'running' and, at least for a fair few seconds, I can still hear any sounds playing. I'll hear video game background music, but no new sounds will play...It doesn't necessarily sound like looping, but it doesnt last for say...a minute (I also dont let it sit for more than 5-10 seconds >.>)

Oh and I almost forgot; the HoN teammates suggested it could also be a faulty power strip and/or outlet (the bottom, unused part of the outlet IS cracked from when we moved in >.<), but the external fan is plugged into the strip as are the monitors and the TV, and they don't go off when the PC does >.>...(It could be the specific spot the tower is plugged into, as it DID change plug in locations on the strip but I SERIOUSLY doubt that's the cause...)

I'm popping in to ask if there's anything I can check or test or do to see what is causing it and/or if it's fixable... :

EDIT: Second techie friend also had me look at System and Application logs in the Windows log area. Now, I didn't see any errors before the shut downs (Approximately), but for at least the most recent and I think the others as well, there WERE critical messages shortly before/after the crash, but from what I saw it mostly just said 'this system has crashed yadda yadda yadda' Now, I asked if he wanted me to do a remote desktop viewing for him to look at the info as maybe there was something he would notice that I wouldn't know to look for, but he didn't seem that eager to try it and/or didn't think it would help :/...
