  2. Event 41 Kernal Power Random Shutdowns, but not in Safemode

    Specs:

    i7-4790k w/ no overclock

    z97i gaming ac msi motherboard

    2x8gb Crucial DDR3 1600mhz

    Zotac founders gtx 1070

    Silverstone sx-500LG psu

    hyper x fury 240GB ssd

    windows 10 home

    version 1703

    Build 15063.0

Whenever my PC is left to idle and sometimes when it isn't even idle, my computer will inexplicably restart itself. When looking in event viewer, all I see is an Event ID 41 Kernal Power Critical event with the following event data:

    BugcheckCode 0

    BugcheckParameter1 0x0

    BugcheckParameter2 0x0

    BugcheckParameter3 0x0

    BugcheckParameter4 0x0

    SleepInProgress 0

    PowerButtonTimestamp 0

    BootAppStatus 0

    Checkpoint 0

    ConnectedStandbyInProgress false

    SystemSleepTransitionsToOn 0

    CsEntryScenarioInstanceId 0

    BugcheckInfoFromEFI true

I have tried reseting bios settings to default, turning off turbo boost and eist, updating all my drivers, formatting and fresh install of windows 10 with fresh drivers. Nothing works. When the PC boots into safemode there are no issues, so I presume it
must be some sort of driver issue, what could it be?

  3. restart and kernel-power event

    Hi,

The kernel power event ID 41 error occurs when the computer is shut down, or it restarts unexpectedly. When a computer that is running Windows starts, a check is performed to determine whether the computer was shut down cleanly. If the computer was not shut
down cleanly, a Kernel Power Event 41 message is generated.

Try this, see if it works for you:

    • Go to "Settings"
    • Select "System"
    • Select "Power and Sleep"
    • Select "Additional Power Settings"
    • Select "Choose what the power buttons do"
    • Select "Change settings currently available"
    • Ensure that "Turn on fast start up" is deselected (unticked)
    • Click on "Save Changes"

Restart your computer after performing the steps.

Let us know if the above steps resolved the issue.

PC restarted by itself when it was idle how can i check why in

Hi, as I said, predicting the relevant event id's for a restart that occurred for unknown reasons is not straightforward. Try searching for 'What is the event id for a restart' for example, and you'll see what I mean.

I can only suggest you inspect the events around the period of interest , looking for a log off, shut down, restart... and if necessary using the link I posted to identify them. Trying to work out why a PC restarted just from the event viewer could be extremely time consuming, depending on the number of events.

If you're lucky and there are few, then it may be feasible to discover something.

First you'd need a list in time order - note that if you simply open the Event Viewer, the reports are categorised, which make tracking something through time impossible. as you know the time period, you could try this:

But easier is to get this free program (title top left) which lists events in order:

PC keeps restarting when idle. Event 566 Kernal-Power. [IMG]

Much easier: look at your update history for that day: does it show an update being applied? If so, what is it? Does that update require a restart?
