Windows 10: PC lock screen frozen after update and no keyboard and mouse access

The computer did an update upon shutdown and a couple of days later my mum has gone to use her computer and the lock screen comes up, but the keyboard and mouse do not work, therefore could not log on.We have changed the batteries and tried the keyboard on another computer, and it works well. I plugged in my battery pack with the USB to see if that was the fault but the battery pack starting charging.I have restarted the computer a few times with no success.

Windows 10 - Keyboard and mouse don't work on lock screen

I was following
this guide to try and fix a problem with my pc not updating. I got to step 7, "Perform an in-place upgrade", and after doing so, windows has frozen my mouse and keyboard on the lock screen and I can no longer use my computer.

I have tested the keyboard and mouse on another computer and they worked fine. I have also tried to use a different mouse and keyboard with my computer but they didn't work either. I have tested every USB port but the problem persists.

The only thing that happens when I plug in a keyboard or mouse is num lock light will flash or the mouse light will turn on.

I can still access my computers BIOS where the keyboard and mouse work fine.

I will reiterate that this has all happened after doing an "in-place upgrade".

Any help would be much appreciated,

i have a dell pc with windows 10 the keyboard and mouse have frozen . I have been told to remove the last windows update. I do not have touch screen ,how can i do this ?

Thank you for using Windows 10.

I understand your concern and would suggest you to try to boot into Safe Mode with Networking. Here is the steps:

• Press and hold the shift key while clicking on
  Restart at the login Screen (Bottom right corner) > Troubleshoot>Advanced Options>Startup Settings>
  Restart >>Choose Enable Safe mode with networking.
  

If the mouse/keyboard works, then update the Mouse and keyboard driver. Here is the steps:

• 
  Press Windows+X key on your desktop and select
  Device Manager.
  
• 
  Locate the mouse drivers, expand, right click and click
  on Update.
  

If it doesn’t help, then I would suggest you to
uninstall and re-install the drivers in compatibility mode. Here is the steps:

• Go to your manufacturer’s website
  and download the Driver’s setup file for your computer.
• Press Windows Key + R on your desktop screen to go to run box.
• Type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter.
• Under Driver, expand, then right click and select
  Uninstall.
• If you are prompted to Confirm then Confirm.
• Go to the location where you had saved your downloaded setup files of the drivers and
  right click, then select Properties.
• Select Compatibility Tab.
• Place a check mark next to Run this program in Compatibility mode and select the operating system accordingly from the drop down list.
• Let the driver to install and then check the functionality.
