Windows 10: PC locksup while mouse is still active and then eventually freezes

Hi. I built my first PC about 7 months ago and I'm stressed out. Two weeks ago, my PC started to randomly freeze, and so far this has happened to me 1-2 times everyday since. Here's what happens consistently: When the freezing starts starts, I can minimize windows and programs, but I cannot interract within them or bring them back up again. I can freely move my mouse and open the start menu, but cannot restart or shut down. I cannot open task manager. When there is audio playing, the audio will continue but the visuals will stop/program is frozen. After a minute or two, I cannot move my mouse

Computer and mouse freeze

PC freezes while using mouse

I understand that the mouse freezes when you try to use it on the PC. For further clarity on the issue, please respond to the questions below.

1. Are you aware of any changes made to the PC?
   
2. Which build version of Windows 10 are you using currently?
   
3. How is the mouse connected to the PC?
   
4. What is the make and model of the PC?
   

I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and see if that helps.



Method 1:



Perform a Clean Boot on the PC and see if the mouse still freezes. Refer the article

How to perform a clean boot in Windows



Performing a clean boot will start the computer with minimal set of drivers and programs, to determine whether a background program is causing the issue. Some of the Startup programs will not load after performing a clean boot on
the computer. However, that functionality will return when you reset the computer to start normally after finishing the troubleshooting.



If the mouse does not freezes after performing Clean Boot, then please refer the section

to identify the root cause of the issue.
