  1. PC Shutdown update at midnight did not close down applications properly

Hi,It appears my Windows 10 PC Workstation restarted last night at around midnight for an update.Premiere Pro was open and a few other applications. Doesn't look like Premiere Pro was closed down cleanly as when I've re-opened it - the last changes I made to the project were not saved.Below is the event log.

  2. Sleep closes applications

    Hi Gonzo,

Improper power configuration or outdated BIOS are some of the factors that can prevent the sleep function to work properly. As an initial step to prevent the programs/applications from closing upon wake up, we suggest that you reset
the power settings to default. To do this follow the steps below:

    • Type Power Options in the search bar and press
      Enter.
    • Under Preferred plans, click the Change plan settings link for the plan that you're currently using.
    • Click the Restore default settings for this plan link. Click
      Yes if prompted.
    • Click the Save changes button.
    • Once you're done, check if the issue persists.

In the event that you encounter the same issue, our next option is to check if
BIOS is updated. To do this, we suggest that you contact the device manufacturer or check their support site on how to properly update it.

Note: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly.
Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of
BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

  3. "Open app" icon with a slanted S preventing shutdown

    Hello Theodore,

The app is preventing shutdown indicates that there is an open application that you might need to close in order for you to shutdown the PC directly.

To check the specific application, you may follow these steps:

    • Open Task Manger by pressing Ctrl +
      Shift
      + Esc.
    • Select the Processes tab, and this will show the application that is currently open.
    • Look for the application and click End task.

Should you need further assistance, feel free to get back to us.

  4. PC Shutdown update at midnight did not close down applications properly

My pc takes for ever to shut down when i restart

Suggest cleaning up your startup list .There may be many services / Apps you can remove on startup which is not needed on boot or during shutdown.
Before you shutdown the Pc check what is running in Task Manager as a program or service in not killing the process on shutdown

Would suggest cleaning up running apps and services -Autoruns, StartupMonitor,HighjackThis,
    Malware Scan - Malwarebytes,ADWcleaner, Combofix
