Windows 10: PC takes around two hours to boot, and NO wifi etc...

Hi, I'm using a GE72 2QC Apache MSI laptop and I'm running into some serious issues.
I'd greatly appreciate you taking your time to read this and any help you can give me.

I'll start from the beginning. The anniversary update installed on my laptop and once it was done, I tried to play a game the next day. It froze on me and I had to force turn it off, it did this over and over when I tried to play games and then did it anyway when I wasn't doing anything on it. I searched this up and it's apparent this is happening to a few windows 10 users with SSD's (I however don't have an SSD but it's happening to me anyway). So as suggested by one of the guides, I rolled back to the previous windows 10 build, only to run into even more problems...

My PC now takes around two hours to boot EVERY time and i've tried as many fixes as I could find but nothing has worked for this. (Let me note that hibernating my PC makes it NOT take two hours to boot but I still have no WIFI so in essence this serves no purpose). Also every time I boot my sound is disabled and I have to click on it to troubleshoot it and make it work. My wifi however, hasn't worked at all since the rollback. It shows an "ethernet connected" symbol constantly and when I go into the network and internet settings there are no wifi options whatsoever. I've tried every fix I can find for this for example unchecking "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" on my wifi adapter but this resets every time I restart my pc. I have tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling, updating and finally disabling and re-enabling it but to no avail. I've tried using all the following command prompts as suggested by other guides but these do nothing whatsoever:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
sfc /scannow
Nothing is working and i'm starting to lose hope. I fear I may have to buy an external hard drive to store my data on, and factory reset my laptop. I really hope it doesn't have to come to this. If I can provide anymore information please let me know and I'll do my best to respond ASAP.

X2 charging slowly

ya im having the same prblm with my X2

i've been using it from two months....



i observed tht the charging takes around two and half hours(switched off condition) when it is started with the battery showing red or else it is taking around four hours....

Computer takes hours to boot up

I did not turn on my computer for about a month because I didn't have a charger. Now I have since turned my computer on and it takes hours to boot up. What can I do to solve this problem?

 

off the top of my head if you can get windows AU to load (in place roll it back) to whatever you have in your Windows OLD folder if it hasn't been deleted , then migrate your data out and clean install the AU .and roll your apps and data back in or ( *alternatively ) scrape your data off the windows healthy partition ,reinstall your apps and *copy * the data and put your d/GPU drivers back into a clean install from AU media ,USB or the MCT that way your data is backed up also . *Smile

You can do all that with Linux Ubuntu drive tools very well if windows won't load or you cant plug the HDD into another PC .*really

 

I'm not sure what you mean by windows AU or MCT? Also will I have to backup my stuff first, I don't want to risk losing any of my projects or anything. I already rolled my pc back to the previous build and I don't believe it's possible to roll it back again as it's been way more than 10 days since the last update before the anniversary one. I have no experience with Linux Ubuntu.

 

AU is the Windows 10 anniversary update and the MCT is a microsoft windows 10 downloadable exe stub that lets you chose to download the Media Creation Tool or in place install the AU directly on your PC just like WU .

you can download an ISO file for DVD media burn for a clean (custom) install boot option or mounting within windows 10 for an in place update or USB media creation option for the same thing on any PC for use on that same PC or any PC it gives you 3 options .

You can instal linux ubuntu to a USB flash drive and run it from from bootable USB flash drive using your BOIS bootloader options and migrate your data with that .


If you have another windows PC you can connect that drive to (after you recover the data to another drive or NTFS volume ) you can use diskpart elevated (admin) cmd to clean out the hidden GPT recovery partitions and re initialize and format the drive in dskmgr. (Disk Manager) to a GPT /NTFS new single volume and let windows AU installer handle the partitions which may be at this point your problem anyway .

This is ofc assuming your laptop is UFEI/GPT and not MBR /legacy BIOS .
in which case you woukld re initialize the HDD that way instead .

You should want the AU MCT media creation tool options for a clean install with an bootable ISO DVD burn or USB boot media .

Scraping data off a windows HDD healthy parttition is a cake walk with the excellent Linux Ubuntu drive tools you can put Linux Ubuntu on a bootable USB ,you can get some basic tutorials for installing & using a linux boot media at Conical.com ( Linux Ubuntu web search ) or all over the web and if need be you can partition your HDD and make a new volume for Linux or a win beta (Windows 10 insider build ) but an Linux USB is slick and should be in everyones kit anyway .

Ideally for data recovery you would want to plug that HDD into another working windows PC SATA or E SATA and power or a USB enclosure or cable sets options to scrape off and hold the data for a clean install with media or be on a dual boot configuration like this PC in my specs but these are alternatives .
Ofc when you get this sorted out don't forget to backup anthing important or do image, incremental or rolling back ups to external storage . *Smile

 

I appreciate this a lot, thank you. It was a confusing to me at first and I was very restless last night so I just went ahead with the reset option but to keep my files however it didn't change a thing. I am typing this from my phone. I don't have another pc to create a linux drive or anything. I think I'm just going to buy and store my files on an external HD, and then return this Laptop to MSI as I still have a warranty on it.

Sounds like you may want to do a clean install of Windows 10. That way you will get clean drivers.

 

Do I clean install by using the delete files reset option?
