I put the two displays diagonals from each other and then accidentally somehow locked my screenWhen my screen froze I thought turning it off and on would help WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE and now I’m here… I can only see the cursor of the mouseI have tried win + p and enter and even that with the down arrow key and nothing worksI even tried the win + ctrl + shift + b and that still doesn’t workIm literally considering buying another monitor and see if that will fix the problem because im so freaked out

  2. How to disconnect a non-existing monitor?

For some reason, Windows determines that there are 2 monitors connected to the system, even though there is physically only 1.

When installing updates, it makes this non-existent monitor the main one and opens all the windows on it, each time I have to perform a hack with moving setting window to be able to switch to “Display duplication” mode.

    1. Are there ways to tell Windows that the second monitor does not exist? (the “turn off monitor” option for this particular non-existent one is not in the menu. I can see this option for existing monitors only)

    2. Is there a way to set a real monitor as the main one? It always mark it as number 2, I can’t change it to number 1 in any way

    Tried solutions:

    1. win+P - simply transfers all windows to a non-existent display, does not solve the problem with a phantom monitor

    2. Reboot - everything is the same

    3. Changing Monitor - The phantom monitor still persists even when reconnected.

    4. Adding a second monitor makes the situation worse - I end up with 2 useless monitors that the system doesn't want to use

    2. Connect the monitor VGA cable from the monitor to the VGA port on the computer
    3. Turn on computer, VGA monitor cable is good.

      Step 2: Tun off computer

    2. Turn on computer and TV, there is no monitor black screen
    3. Click on the Windows logo, select the Settings icon , and then select

    Black border around monitor

I tried the steps you suggested and it did not change anything regarding the black border. I am trying to come up with a better explanation, the information on my screen has a black frame around the information on my screen. The display does not go from
corner to corner of my display monitor. There is a 1 inch thick black bar on the left and right sides and a 1/2 inch thick black bar on the top and bottom. I attached the screen shot per your request but it is only showing the information on the screen up
to the black frame. I can get rid of the black frame by going to a lower resolution but I didn't think that is the right solution. I should be able to upgrade to windows 10 and still have the recommended resolution for my monitor.
