Windows 10: PC to A/V Receiver to TV Signal Loss

Hi all,

I am experiencing a strange issue where my TV is losing signal after playing a game for a period of time. My primary display, a monitor, is not affected by this. My speakers also cut off when the TV loses signal. The TV is connected via HDMI. The TV appears in my list of displays as "Denon AVR"

My TV is connected through a Denon AVR. I have used this setup for months without any issues, and this practically came out of nowhere. I ran variable tests where I tried to replicate the issue on other game consoles attached to my AVR, and it did not happen in those cases. I also tried multiple HDMI cables to see if it was a cable problem. No luck.

Any idea what might be causing this issue?

Changed Resolution settings on PC while using a TV with a VGA to HDMI converter, no Signal

Hi!

RIght, so ive been using my TV with my Desktop PC with a VGA to HDMI Converter box absolutely fine for months... and as i was changing my resolutions setting higher the signal cut out and i receive so signal from the PC to TV.

I've tried to plug myself back into a standard PC monitor and that works just fine... also to change the resolution setting back to the way they are but i still receive no signal while plugged into the converter to TV!

any answers?

Issue with connecting computer to a TV

Before I upgraded to Windows 10, I have used an HDMI transmitter to HDMI receiver from PC to TV. Since upgrade, TV has only indicated "no signal" . Had checked all equipment, but appears nothing is coming out of HDMI port on the PC . Help...

 

If you have another monitor connected at the same time with the TV, then HDMI is the secondary in a dual display setup. That is you play your game on the HDMI (secondary) and when quitting the game it becomes inactive. This is true for most full-screen games. If it is a desktop computer, you could try using only the TV connected in HDMI. This would make it the primary monitor and you wouldn't have that issue. If you still want a dual monitor setup, then you could designate HDMI as the primary monitor from the advanced display settings. If you have a notebook, then you could try switching the display to external (HDMI) only. This will give you the best resolution your TV can display, rather than trying to match that of the monitor, and would make TV the primary monitor eliminating the issue.

Yes, the HDMI-connected TV is the secondary display. In Windows settings, I have it set to "duplicate." Doesn't that eliminate the primary/secondary designation? Both the monitor and the TV are 1920x1080 resolution. I play using the "duplicated" setup all the time, basically just turning the monitor off when I'd rather use the TV and the TV when I'd rather use the monitor. The issue I'm having now is that while I'm playing a game on the TV (whether or not it is duplicated or extended, or only visible on the TV), the TV image will just cut off after a while. It seems to be a similar interval when it cuts off, each time.

I took your advice and tried to set the HDMI as my primary in an "extended" display setup, but the same thing happened again. It simply cut off after a few minutes. It is still listed under displays, meaning it is connected, but just without picture.

 

Sounds like there is some kind of power option. Check the power settings in Control Panel, make sure monitor doesn't turn off after some time. Also check in graphics card's utility for similar setting.

 

any gamer with these kind of setups should make extensive use of the Win+P shortcut

 

I don't have any special power options enabled, especially any that I've changed recently. I will disable everything related to power (keep the computer on forever and keep all displays on forever) and see what comes of that. Thanks for the suggestion!

So the problem is continuing even with the power saving stuff all disabled. I'm really beginning to suspect the receiver, or at least the PC's relationship to the receiver. It's just weird that this would happen so suddenly.

I'm running out of ideas. The one thing I will do when I get the chance is to see if the issue can be replicated while connecting the PC directly to the TV, without passing through the AVR. If the problem goes away, well, then I have a bigger issue to deal with than drivers or power options *Sad

Do you have any other ideas?

 

I had a similar issue with a AMD card not in win10 though(win7) the only work arounds were, I reinstalled windows 7 with tv and amp on nothing else connected(not ideal) or turn on tv then amp then pc, this worked most of the time.
If I turned on the monitor then put the pc to sleep or left it for a while it would default back to thinking the monitor was the main display and randomly turn off all the other display settings no matter what I set them too.

 

Just a thought... Maybe the power saving option is on the receiver or TV. Check if these have any power settings and turn them off. Also change the cable, maybe if the signal strength is not above a certain level, it triggers a standby mode.
