PC unable to boot due to SSD W11

PC had completely frozen so I restarted it, then during boot up says,[Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key]So I open BIOS and there seems to be no issue so I google the problem and end up creating a Recovery drive which I then use to run startup repair which does not work. A source claimed that it can be resolved through different cmd commands which all say roughly the same thing, something about unable to locate the drive or the drive doesn't work. Google sources claim the SSD is now in read only mode, but I’m also unable to clear t

  2. Unable to boot Windows after cloning it to SSD

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are facing issues while booting the PC after cloning Windows to new SSD. I would like to know what happens when you try to boot the PC to desktop using SSD?

The reason you are not able to boot the PC is that the files required to boot Windows are still recognizing the HDD as the main drive. I would suggest you to try rebuilding the BCD files and see if you are able to boot the PC using
    SSD.

Kindly follow the steps below to rebuild the BCD.

    1. Create a bootable media and boot the PC using the media.
    2. On the Install Windows screen, select Next >
      Repair your computer.
    3. On the System Recovery Options screen, select
      Troubleshoot
      > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
    4. Now type in the commands and hit enter: BOOTREC /FIXMBR

      BOOTREC /FIXBOOT

      BOOTREC /scanos

      BOOTREC /rebuildbcd
    5. Restart the PC.

If the issue persists, please get back to us with the results of the troubleshooting steps to assist you further.

  3. W11 on SSD won't boot to login unless former SSD with W10 is attached to PC

I bought a new SSD and installed Windows 11 on it but anytime I want to boot to it, I can't unless my former drive with now inactive Win 10 installed on it is also attached to the PC.

    I am on a Z390-H with 9900K.

My W11 drive is on the CPU M.2 and the former W10 is on the chipset M.2 slot. I have used BIOS to change the boot order and used CSM but the trouble is that it won't boot into it directly without having selected (WINDOWS BOOT MANAGER drive) from the boot order. If I don't have the W10 drive attached I can't access my W11 at all.

There is a 553MB partition (recovery part) but on the W10 drive there is a 99MB (EFI System Part) I suspect that this is the culprit.

With only the W11 drive attached it goes directly into BIOS no matter what.

So what I want is to get help on how to have the W11 drive be bootable autonomously.

I have tried using the recovery part to boo into the drive but it won't do give me the option, the system restarts and i'm back in either BIOS or the recovery screen.

  4. PC unable to boot due to SSD W11

Unable to boot windows due to missing or corrupt files

    Hi Callum,

There are several reasons why your PC isn't booting properly. One of which is because of broken boot data configuration components. To isolate the issue, we highly suggest you to boot your PC in Safe Mode. Given that you cannot access the setup screen, please
    follow these steps:

    Do the improper shutdown process:

    • Turn on your computer.
    • When the Windows logo is visible, unplug the computer. Do this thrice.
    • At the 4th boot, simply wait for the Windows Recovery Environment window to appear.

After doing the improper shutdown process, please follow these steps:

    • On the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot.
    • Click Advanced options then, Startup Settings.
    • Click Restart.
    • Once the PC has restarted, press the F4 key to boot in Safe Mode.

Let us know if the resolution worked for you.
