PC will not boot without extra steps

So.... I purchased a used demo laptop from Walmart. Did the factory reset to make sure all demo loops and customer data was removed. I performed the reset without the laptop being plugged up, and i think it lost power somewhere in the process. Now, it will not boot normally. I can only boot by pressing F12 at startup and booting from UEFI file or it may be EFI...don't know should have wrote it down I've tried command prompts, system repair, creating a restore point, and just about everything a google search has to offer. I am down loading Windows 10 installation media now, which I am supposed to boot from some how google has a million articles that all have different instructions for what i hope are the same results. Down load is at 12% and i am now thinking that i should have selected "upgrade this PC" instead of the option for another PC. I won't have any issues with the product key because the digital license is tied to my Microsoft account, but I want to know if I am on the right track to fixing this thing. I've had had it a little over a year, but rarely used it. i wanted to have an 8GB ram for some video editing software, but i think the system is still too weak for it so I put it in the corner as a "when I'm bored" type of thing... It was only $80 bucks for a HP Pavillion I5 Gaming Laptop. But now I actually want to use it for games, and would like to be able to just turn it on normally. It's so seldom that i use it that I'm not even sure that I'm selecting the same option each time. something like boot from exe.efi file. i know that's nowhere near right but it's something like that. Steam works, games run, no problem when I get it to boot up, until it tries to update itself and forces a restart. Then I have to go through all the stuff i know nothing about again.

    too long... didn't read

How do I fix the issue of my laptop not booting into windows without having to go into the BIOS menu?

    :)

  2. PC Build Steps

Ok just because I like steps i am going to create some steps. Please give me the stamp of approval/disapproval
    • Install system in case
      • Remember to connect SSD and optical to same SATA ports on motherboard
    • Turn on PC
    • setup HDD
    • run blend test in prime95 for 30-60 min
      • run realtemp at the same time
    • While in Prime95 test
      • if CPU goes above 70c in RealTemp, I have a leaky CPU
      • if my system locks up or blue screens, there is an instability in the system somewhere
      • if my system does not lock up or blue screen, my CPU is not damaged and I am in the clear!
    What do you guys think??

    PC Build Steps

1.1 - Ideally put optical in SATA 0, and SSD in SATA 1, this will cause the optical drive to be the default 1st boot option. You can change it manually if not, but I like it this way
    2.infinity - yes, that's fine. if it's above 70 +/- 5 degrees, then it may just need a repaste/remount
