PCIe Wireless adapter is not being recognized

I just bought an ASUS PCE-N53 PCI-E adapter for my PC that I built several months ago. Previously, I was just using ethernet. Put the card in my PCI-E 1 slot, and installed the drivers from the installation disc, but nothing shows up in Device Manager and I have no wireless option in my Network Connections settings. Any idea why it's not showing up, minus it being dead out of the box? I can't try it in my PCI-E 2 slot because my graphics card is in the way. Thanks in advance!

    :)

  2. Wireless Adapter Not Found

I have a PC I built (I'm a novice for sure) and recently had to go from wired internet connection to WiFi. I bought a TP-Link T8E AC1750 wireless adapter and installed it in the PCIe slot, but it is not recognized in device manager. I wanted to try to see
that if I ran the driver install it would change things, but it is giving me the error that the wireless adapter is not found.

I moved the adapter to another PCIe slot and am still having the same problem (I've moved it to 3 different PCIe slots now)

The light comes on for the adapter when my computer powers up, too.

What am I overlooking for it to not be recognized by my PC?

This sounds like the motherboard is not detecting you have the card installed. Make sure it is fully inserted, also, I wonder if you have a setting in the BIOS that needs to be applied to activate the PCI-E slot.

If the board is detected there should be some evidence of it in Device Manager, do you see anything in Other Devices with a yellow question mark?

That was my thought as well. I tried reseating it once. I started thinking more like it was something in BIOS, but I'm not super familiar with the settings in there. They had one for initial display output that was pointed to PCI-E 1 so I changed it in case that would have messed it up, but it didn't seem to have any effect. Any idea what other settings I should look at? I'll try reseating it again later today.

Oh, and no, there isn't an Other Devices section in device manager nor anything with the little yellow question mark.

I think I know what you may have done. Do you have your graphics card in the PCIEX4 slot? If you have used this slot it will render the slots you are trying to use for the Network card unavailable. See the notes for your motherboard:

    1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4)
    * The PCIEX4 slot shares bandwidth with all PCI Express x1 slots. All PCI Express x1 slots will become unavailable when a PCIe x4 expansion card is installed.

The way around this is to put your graphics card in the PCIEX16 slot. This will then leave the PCIE x1 slots working for the network card.

That was it! D'oh. First computer I've built before and I was totally unaware that the x4 shared with the x1 slots. Thanks so much!!
