Windows 10: PDF wont open due to missing encoding

Discus and support PDF wont open due to missing encoding in Windows 10 Software and Apps to solve the problem; Hi, I am trying to open a PDF but it gives error message "The encoding (Cmap) specified by a font is missing".     Hi,
    I am trying to open a PDF but it gives error message "The encoding (Cmap) specified by a font is missing".

    Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

    • Does the issue persist in Edge browser?
    • Do you get similar error when you open the PDF file in Adobe reader?


    Check if you are facing similar issue in Edge browser.



    Step 1: Open PDF file in Adobe reader and check if you are facing similar issue.



    To open PDF file directly from Adobe reader, follow the steps below:



    • Open Adobe application and click on Edit.
    • Click on Preferences and select Internet.
    • Uncheck Display PDF in Browser option and check if you are able to open the PDF file without getting the error code.


    Step 2: If you are able to open PDF file in Adobe reader, I suggest you to
    Turn off Internet Explorer,
    enable it again and check if the issue is resolved.

    Print to PDF missing in Printer List

    Hi William,

    We suggest that you disable and re-enable the Print to PDF feature. Here are the steps:

    • Click on the Start menu and type in Windows Features.
    • Choose Turn Windows features on or off.
    • On the next window, find Microsoft Print to PDF and disable it. Click
      OK to save changes.
    • Restart your PC.
    • Repeat the same steps to re-enable Microsoft Print to PDF.
    If the issue persists, we suggest that you perform the troubleshooting steps suggested on the link below under
    Advanced:

    Fix printer problems

    Thanks for your help. I was browsing the web the other day and I found a page called FINAL DRAFT. They had a set of instructions for reinstalling the Microsoft Print to PDF utility that worked great for me. Problem solved.
