Windows 10: People app is a mess

I'm so frustrated with the Windows 10 People app. It's been so out of control for a long time, and in the dead of a snowy winter, I decided to take the time to get it under my control finally.


I went through my entire Microsoft Hotmail contact list (which contains my most important contacts for the last 20 years or so). I did this right on the live.com contacts website a few days ago and deleted old contacts, no longer needed contacts, people who had died, and a few I didn't recognize. Generally cleaned it up. It looked great on my Hotmail contacts list. I exported it to my computer.


I then went to my gmail contacts on the mail.google.com site, and deleted ALL the contacts there. Fresh start, I hoped. I imported my newly exported Hotmail contacts file to gmail. Looking good! Or so I thought.


After I opened the Windows 10 people app, and waited for a very long syncing session, I find it is still a mess. Tons of duplicates and sometimes 5 or more suggested contacts to link for many persons. Skype contacts, Facebook contacts, etc. It's almost like it's duplicating from the desktop computer, the laptop computer and the phone.


Am I misunderstanding the reason for the People app? Is there no way to take control of the People app without having it multiply several times with multiple information I don't want or need? I did read something about going to settings and unselecting accounts from the app, but when I tried that, I found no way to do so. Thanks if you can help. Judy

Mail app will not open on 10041.

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it.

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

• Open powershell as administrator
• Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
• Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)

 

Issue with People app


I'm running a clean install of Win 10, less than a week old, and I'm seeing some odd behaviour with the People app.

When I'm in Mail, I can see a contact's details by clicking on the "Open Contact" option from within the message. This opens the People app. So far so good.

However, this seems to be the only way I can access People. There's no obvious way to access it otherwise from mail, it's not listed in "All apps": also, when the People app is open, it has no icon in the taskbar - just an empty space where the icon should be (I can grab this anti-icon and move it around the taskbar).

Any suggestions welcome...

 

Missing apps: Store, People, Photos, Games & Camera on upgrading to 10

Thanks for replying spunk. That's the 'alphabetical' list I was referring to, none of these apps are in that 'All apps' list. Any more suggestions?
