    Perennial problem: Windows Defender taking DAYS to run a full scan.


    It's Windows 10, fully updated, and it's taking DAYS to run a scan. Earlier today after scanning all night and all day yesterday. and all the previous night ... after shutting down all other programs, disconnecting from the internet, etc. - this a.m. it said it would take another 12+ hours. It also said it had scanned more than 4 million files. Now, it says it will take another 14 hours. So, the opposite of progress.I've searched the web - and this site - for solutions, to no avail, but I've seen people baffled by this for more than 7 years. I'm beginning to believe this is a problem Microso

    Windows Defender Scans

    Windows Defender is set to scan weekly but every time I boot up I get the message "Windows Defender needs to scan your computer". Sometimes I boot up once a day, sometimes I boot up 3 or 4 times in a day - has anyone any ideas as to why this is happening.

    I am running Windows 10 (updated) and have CCleaner 5.25 - some suggestions say to un-check Windows Defender in CCleaner- but Windows Defender is not listed anywhere in CCleaner (I have gone through all the subheadings).

    Defender not Running Regular Scan


    I've never understood the need some people feel to set up a scheduled task to run a Defender scan. For the past year the automatic maintenance has run Defender scans for me.

    That is, until the Anniversary Upgrade - it broke something and Defender never ran another scan. It finally alerted me that a scan was long overdue. I followed the suggestion on another thread...
    Windows Defender No Longer Performs AutoScan
    ...and the automatic maintenance scans are back to running regularly again.
