Windows 10: Performance issues when sorting folder with 4000 images

I struggle to understand why an OS in 2024 cannot instantly sort a folder with 4000 images. I understand if thumbnails take longer to load, but when I click to sort by date, or name, I should not get a 'working' icon and have to wait 5-30 seconds. Use case is importing photos from mobile phone, or copying photos from DSLR compact storage card. I have done:Change folder to General instead of Picture - this minimizes the wait time, but is not foolproof. Sometimes it still lags horribly. I have 32 GB of RAM and a 14th gen intel CPUProblems:If an app creates a new folder, it might set the new fold

You can filter the folders and files in File Explorer using the Sort by option. To best address your concern, we need you to answer the following questions:

• What do you mean when you mentioned “files sorted by latest first”?
• You mentioned that you were able to perform it before, which Windows version were you using that time?
• Can you provide us a detailed description of what you would like to perform?

In the meantime, you can try the following steps:

• Go to File Explorer.
• Click the Drive where the files and folders are saved.
• Under Current view, click Sort by.
• Select Name if you would like to sort it alphabetically. Choose
  Date modified or Date created if you wanted to sort it by date. Refer to the image below.

Please take note that you can’t apply two filters at a time.

Guys i am trying to fix my cousins Asus Eee netbook. It has a backup image file that is partitioned on the hard drive but when I go to use it the app will run through a few steps and stop. It is running Vista . Any suggestions?
