    Permanently block updates ?

    Manny,

I succeed but I do not block any services. I set all my connections to metered and I have withdrawn all access permission to usoclient.exe. This scheme works well and does not involve trying to suppress any services.

One of the major benefits of the scheme I use is that is does not change during a Windows session.
    - Any update that might reset these parameters does so during restarts not during the Windows session itself.
    - So I monitor the metered settings & usoclient.exe access permissions automatically at logon
    - If an update has altered either of them I get told about it within seconds.
    - I have just posted about this on page 4 of Stop Windows 10 Updates Properly and Completely.

  3. How to I permanently block Windows 10 updates of all types?

Yup. You nailed the big issue here: One of the problems I was facing was that it interfered with my schedule. I have to stop working all together because it decides to update. I had to, remotely, stop an update in progress before my computer would reboot several
times. If a reboot was allowed to go through work would have been lost AND I would have lost the ability to remote access until I physically returned home because, for security purposes, I manually set the remote access features. A reboot would lock me out
entirely. Sometimes I'm half a world away when I'm remote accessing which means an update would force me to literally drop everything I am doing and travel around the world to fix it. I'm not the only person who needs to use this machine as well, and I maintain
multiple virtual machines with their own remote access permissions so that others working with me can access their environment as well no matter where they are. This problem stops work for everyone.

Of course, it could be worse. Imagine any professional environment that requires computer update: Banks, Medical Groups, Insurance companies, etc. They cannot allow their update to be compromised by automatic updates. One hospital nearby was stuck dealing with
pencil and paper FOR THE ENTIRE BUILDING because of a stupid update gone wrong which slowed down the ER which LITERALLY KILLED PEOPLE. I don't know all the details, but it's not the first time that a system used by more than one hospital went down for such
reasons. That's why most of them stayed with Windows XP.If they can manually update and test the update on a test machine because instantiating it elsewhere the risk of downtime is eliminated. There just isn't a market for this type of software behavior in
professional circles. Case in point, I'm not the only person here complaining about that exact circumstance.

I'm majoring in genetics and computer science. Without going into detail about what I will be working on in the near future is software that is aimed for use by labs. Software that will save lives. You don't want that kind of development delayed, and likewise
you don't want a lab to have to stop an analysis because of an update - especially if they are renting cloud processing to speed things up.

Of course, my problem is solved so when I have the time I will be writing a program that will outright destroy a computer's ability to update all together while giving it the ability to undo such changes so the user can still update if and when they choose
    to.

  4. Permanently block updates ?

How to I permanently block Windows 10 updates of all types?

I am familiar with Linux, but I have to use Windows for work and school. I also need to keep specific features and I explicitly do not want the changes that these updates will cause to my work environment. Although in the future I'll probably only install
windows within a virtual machine going forward.

Only an idiot buys into the idea that you have to give up control to Microsoft to use Windows. I know perfectly well they don't like people stopping updates, but there HAS to be a way to stop it. I just need to know more about the processes at work here.
I had no problem removing Edge and IE because I understood the processes at work, even though it's not supposed to be possible.

For example, I successfully blocked the windows10upgraderapp.exe process. Every time it tries to run itself (despite being delayed in groups and disabled in scheduler) it is immediately closed, but somehow the files are still redownloaded. What processes is
Microsoft using to steal me METERED bandwidth? It's downloading more than 20 gigs a shot, repeatedly. They've nearly eaten through my monthly quota today alone, so if this goes on much longer I will have to pay through the nose for Microsoft's use of my network
or cease working entirely. Neither option is acceptable to me.

I need to know exactly how it's doing what it's doing so I can stop it. It's as simple as that. I know that it's not like past versions of window that lets me pick and choose the updates I want hence why I want to kill it all. As far as I am concerned, Microsoft
updates are now as malicious and disruptive to my work as a virus. I am tired of having to stop working every other hour to deal with this.
