Windows 10: PERMANENTLY disable AUTO Windows Updates - Windows 10???? PLEASE HELP

Hi All,So, I have tried all the services.msc changes to disable Windows AUTO update and none of it works. I have lost so much time because I leave my computer running and it resets overnight and I lose anything I hadn't saved. I get it, I could save and shut down every night, but sometimes I get up because my kids need something, or some other issue distracts me and I forget... then I come back and my computer has restarted and auto-save ruins formatting no idea why, so I have to go back to an earlier version and what ever I worked on is lost. Probably to the tune of 100 hours over the pa

Turned what off? Driver updating? I'm surprised to say I'm the first (and apparently only) person to know that doens't work at all. Even if you disable driver updating, WIndows 10 will disregard that and still auto update graphic drivers and also auto install them whether you like it or not. It is IMPOSSIBLE to to make a clean driver install now.

Too bad you didn't have a little more patience. It most likely is the Fall Creators update. It can take a couple hours. I am personally aware of 3 cases like yours where the user got impatient. If you look at Update History, most like you will see 1709 failed several times. I suggest you start it again and go to bed. In the morning, you will likely have to reboot, but soon would be good to go.

Disabling Windows Update is a bad idea unless you are very disciplined at manually keeping Windows updated on a timely bases.
