Permissions Issues - You do not currently have permission to ...

Installed windows 10 pro yesterday as an in place upgrade to my 8.1 pro. There is a few issues so far, but the one that is annoying me at the moment is my pictures/documents/music folders. On a fresh reboot of my computer, the first time I try and access one of those user folders I get the pop up of, You do not currently have permission to access this folder. Click to permanently gain access. I click and get access but I do not like having to do this everytime. My lockscreen slideshow points to my pictures folder and on a fresh boot it will not show my slideshow because it doesn't have permissions. Clicking doesn't give me permanent access. I only have one account on my pc, just my local admin account. I have tried taking ownership and granting myself full control. I notice the entire user folder in c:/users/ is read only. I have tried changing that as well. I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

    :)

  2. “You don’t currently have permission to access this folder”

Hi Steven. I'm Greg, a volunteer installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

Take Ownership of the drive would probably be easiest and should always work. It's a powerful tool though which should not be used on the whole C drive!

    Install the button from here:
    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3841-add-ta...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

  3. “You don’t currently have permission to access this folder”

    Hey there, StevenOrnstein

Welcome to the Microsoft Community forums.

This may be down to Group policy permissions on the drive. Please can you check by right clicking onto the drive > properties > Security and check if you have permissions to edit/read the drive?

If you don't, you can change it from there as well.

    Hope this helps,

    Regards,

  5. So, I'm having the very same issue. Here's my deal:
I'm running a clean install of Windows 10 Home (after experiencing the same issue upgrading from 8.1 and a fresh/clean 8.1). My home folders are redirected to a secondary hard drive, rather than my primary M.2 drive. Here is an error I get using PSP X7:

Permissions Issues - You do not currently have permission to ... [IMG]

I get errors in other programs, like Fallout New Vegas, autosaves wont' save, when I manually save, the games don't write, and I get errors telling me that I need administrator permissions to manipulate things in my home folders. I checked security and permissions, and I am owner of the folder. When I go into advanced security settings, and check the box below, it alleviates the problem for a day or so (though I had to run it today):

Permissions Issues - You do not currently have permission to ... [IMG]

I don't know why it's so flakey, but i'm at least glad to see that I'm not the only one on the planet having this issue. Does ANYONE have any ideas?

  6. What we know so far I believe:
    1) This issue seems to only happen with Microsoft Accounts rather than Local Accounts:
    2) This issue only seems to happen with Home Folders redirected someplace else
    3) From looking at other forums, it doesn't seem to matter whether you've updated from Win 7/8/8.1 or done a clean install, it happens regardless of environment.

    Is that about right?

That is correct. I cannot say if it happens only with local of MS accounts, but I did an update and moved over to a refreshed state. I cannot save anything to the pitures folder. Have to save to desktop, then copy over to pics folder, after giving it admin permission.

  9. I had the same problem. Couldn't save into my C:/Users/Username/Pictures folder.

    I right clicked the folder,
    Properties>Security
and for some reason, my username wasn't in the list of "Group or User Names", instead replaced by "Account Unknown...."

To solve, I did the following

    - Edit (Under the list in question)>Add
    - In the "Enter names of objects field", add write your Microsoft email account you use to login (or your user name if you use a local account)
    - Click on check names, and then add your account to the list, make sure it is set to full control.
    - Click on Apply in both screens

I have had this issue since upgrading three days ago. Changing the security settings allows access but windows seems to reset them to read-only after a short time. I have spoken to an MS for 50 minutes with no result other than this is now escalated and they will call me again tomorrow. To have then call you go here: https://partner.support.services.mic...&wa=wsignin1.0
I will post back if there is anything to report

Permissions Issues - You do not currently have permission to ...

A very helpful MS agent has corrected this problem. Apparently I was doing the right thing by changing the security settings but I had not set it to 'inherit the settings' so that these reverted to the original. Sorry I cannot provide details as to how to do this as the agent did it all remotely in double-quick time! I suggest you have MS call you by going here: https://partner.support.services.mic...&wa=wsignin1.0
MS is aware of this issue and a future update will provide a fix.

  14. I think what he did for you is what I did, except my issue doesn't stay solved, I have to do what the MS agent does just about every day. Do let us know if your permissions stay proper.

On a side note, I do understand that SR1 is due out soon, so it will likely be fixed by then (we all hope).

Sadly you are correct. The problem returned an hour after it was 'sorted'. Here's hoping for an early release of SR1 - my search box is not working either *Sad
