    I have a 1T hard drive that was in a Windows 7 PC tower. There is about 750 GB of data on the drive. The PC was giving me a lot of trouble over a year of SMART warnings of imminent disk failure; video crashing into a dark screen or changing to various weird color schemes even after monitor and cable replaced. So I bought a Windows 10 laptop. I put the 1T hard drive in an enclosure and connected to the Windows 10 laptop as an external drive. Windows 10 first told me each of the lettered drives on the external drive had a problem and asked if I wanted to run chkdsk

    External Hard Drive Reads in Windows XP, not in Windows 7 ??

    Hello,



    I have a Windows XP Computer that I can read my Toshiba External Hard Drive with no issues. I have lots of pictures in it that I do not want to lose and I want to get rid of my XP because it is outdated, and I prefer using my MAC or my
    Windows 7 PC.



    When I connect the External Hard drive into my Windows 7 or my MAC, none of these Operating Systems detect the External Hard Drive. I do not even get any pop ups regarding the USB ports recognizing the external Hard Drive connected into the USB.
    If go into Disk Management in my Windows 7 Laptop, there is nothing recognized in there when it comes to the Toshiba External Hard drive.



    My Windows XP computer does detect the External Hard rive in Disk Management.





    Any Suggestions on how I can View my pictures on my Windows 7 PC so that I can ditch my windows XP computer?

    Forget it and get Windows 8! *Smile permissions on Windows 10 all messed up reading external hard drive from Windows 7 computer :)

    Messing with permissions is really for advanced users, you can't win the Kernel with a crowbar *Smile permissions on Windows 10 all messed up reading external hard drive from Windows 7 computer :)

    Ok so I feel officially dumb I am trying to copy my steam library to my NAS. Both are on windows 10 pro and both have full control in the file manager. Neither windows nor fast copy will allow me to copy, both list a permissions error? This was never an issue with windows 7...so first off thank you microsoft god forbid I want to back up my data, second off what the heck do I need to do to make this work. All I could fine online was to set full control and that obviously didn't help.

    Also robocopy doesn't apparently work with network locations?
