  1. Persistent Audio Issues Windows 10

(Posting this on behalf of my husband so I can get audio working on my puter for video gamessss!)

I am running 64-bit Windows 10 Home Build 19042 on a Gigabyte 970A-UD3P (rev. 2.x) with the latest BIOS version (FC) and Realtek HD Audio Driver (Version 8447) from this motherboard's support page. I used the built-in recovery tool to have a fresh install of Windows 10. The only programs I downloaded were nVidia drivers and Google Chrome.

I'm having an issue that has now become two-phase. My first persistent issue was having to use the Windows troubleshooter to reinstall the audio drivers every time I booted up the computer. I tried using different speakers, headphones, even running sound through HDMI to my monitor. The Windows sound settings would show my devices, and the audio level would spike, but no sound would come out anywhere. I tried manually uninstalling the audio driver and restarting the computer, disabling audio enhancements -- pretty much all of the troubleshooting tips you'll find from a Google search. This was before I installed the Realtek HD Audio Driver from Gigabyte's website, so I was using the generic Windows audio driver. The only thing that would work was running the troubleshooter after every boot.

From there, I tried installing the Realtek HD Audio Driver. When I did this, and speakers / headphones would output this garbled mess. Running the sound through HDMI to my monitor would give me the same result as the first phase. Systems settings are still showing my devices and still showing audio levels, but I'm not hearing any sound even under the garbled mess. At this stage I cannot even get back to where I was before. I've tried all of the troubleshooting I did before and even reinstalled Windows again using the recovery tool, but now before I even reinstall the Realtek driver I'm still getting a garbled mess, Windows troubleshooter be damned.

I am 100% at my wit's end. I'm relatively tech savvy -- I've been building my own PCs for years now, and there's rarely been an issue that I haven't been able to work through with some in-depth troubleshooting. This is also an issue I have NEVER come across before. My two theories are that there is some kind of unfixable driver incompatibility issue that cropped up after a Windows 10 update, or that the motherboard is physically defective. Unfortunately I cannot remember if this is an out of the box issue, but I'm pretty sure when I first put this PC together it worked fine.

    Any help would be appreciated!
