  1. Persistent BSOD with Anker USB C Hub

Hi,I've recently started getting regular BSOD's when I connect my Anker USB-C hub to my laptop. I mainly utilise the hub for my ethernet connection due to having poor wifi reception in my home office. The device is a Anker 5-in-1 533 slim hub Product link here. The only the items I have attached to the hub are 2 wireless devices for my keyboard and mouse, alongside the ethernet cable. My laptop is a HP 15s-eq0xxx running windows 11. It has a AMD Ryzen 5 3450U with onboard Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx.At first i thought this was a google chrome issues causing the crash, a lot of the time it seemed

  2. Anker USB C Hub malfunctioning. Device Descriptor Request Failed.

Hi all, I'm having some trouble with an Anker brand USB-C Hub that I have. It contains 2 USB-A ports, 2 USB-C Ports, an HDMI port, and an SD Card Reader. It is connected to my laptop, running the latest version of Windows 11, through a USB-C Cable, to my laptop's only USB-C port.

Every time I plug the device in, it is reported as malfunctioning, and that windows cannot identify it. While in this state, anything plugged into the USB-A ports are unresponsive and undetectable. However, the HDMI port continues to function normally. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device, updating the drivers, and restarting my computer, but have not been able to solve the problem yet.

The last driver update date is listed as 6/21/2006.

  3. USB HUB

    Hi,

Incompatible USB hub driver is one of the possible reasons why this issue is happening. We recommend uninstalling the USB Root Hub driver and see if it helps. Follow the stepes below:

    • Open Device Manager.
    • Double-click Universal Serial Bus controllers to expand.
    • Right-click USB Root Hub, then click Properties.
    • Go to the Driver tab.
    • Click Uninstall.
    • Restart your computer.
Note: Restarting your computer will automatically reinstall a generic driver for your computer. Also, we suggest connecting your USB hub while performing the steps.

If the issue still persists, let's disable the USB selective suspend settings thru Power Options to resolve the issue. Follow the steps below:

    • Type Power Options in the search box, then press Enter.
    • Locate USB settings > USB selective suspend settings.
    • Select Disable.

Keep us in the loop with the result.

Persistent BSOD with Anker USB C Hub

Anker issues recall and replacements after researcher demonstrates unsafe USB-C cables

"We're at an interesting crossroads in Android hardware. Manufacturers are switching from MicroUSB for power and wired data to the newer, more capable USB-C standard. But the rush to provide mobile users with hundreds of millions of new cables and chargers creates, well, a rush. We've already seen some USB-C cables and other hardware that have been substandard, sometimes with disastrous results. So civic-minded geeks, including independent researcher Nathan K., have been looking into the performance and power output of popular cables.

It turns out that a specific cable from budget accessory provider Anker might be dangerous, because it "remembers" the voltage for the USB-C power input on some newer laptops like the Chromebook Pixel, then provides that same voltage to phones if not unplugged from a more powerful charging base. USB-C laptops are designed to take 15V-20V power input, but some phones are only designed to take inputs at up to 5V. The differential could damage low-power electronics or, in extreme cases, cause battery explosions or fires.

Here's Nathan's video demonstrating the faulty cable that sends unsafe voltages to devices that aren't designed to accept them. With cables (or at least the USB-C connections on them) now compatible with everything from a tiny wearable to a full-power laptop, it's a serious problem for end users.
    "

"Anker further instructing customers to simply throw their faulty cables away."

    Anker:
"We are offering all of our PowerLine USB-C A8185011 users a full refund. In addition, we would like to offer a free Anker PowerLine USB-C cable to affected customers once we have improved Anker PowerLine USB-C A8185011."
