  1. Persistent issue: When listening to anything, anytime there is a volume peak, Windows 10...

I have literally searched for a solution for this for years with no success.

Anytime I listen to (or watch) anything which has rather dynamic soundscapes (meaning quiet and loud parts), whenever the signal peaks, Windows immediately attenuates it by at least 10dB.

So instead of the glorious blast of sound at the chorus (or any explosions, whatever), I get a quiet passage instead.

I have been fighting this for ages and am beyond frustrated.

I have disabled all enhancements in the playback device (standard RealTek audio) and yet it persists.

I have updated my drivers. It persists.

I have un- and re-installed the device. It persists.

Please, Windows gurus, help me find a solution to this problem which was never a problem in prior versions of Windows.

  2. Issues with the Volume mixer on windows 10.

    Hi Margit,

I appreciate if you could answer few questions to narrow down to the issue.

    1. What is the exact issue that you are facing?

    2. Did you receive any error message?

    3. Does that mean that the Volume mixer icon is not present on the desktop?

    4. Are you facing this sound issue on any specific application, since you had mentioned Skype?

If the Volume mixer icon is missing from the desktop, this issue may arise when the notification for the Volume mixer is not turned on in the settings.

Please follow the below steps and check if that helps to resolve the issue.

    • Type Notifications in the Searchbar and select Notifications and action center.

    • Select the option “Select which icons appear on the taskbar”.

    • Make sure the Volume icon has been turned on from the settings.
If the issue still persists, I suggest you to download and install any pending updates that needs to be installed on the computer through Windows update and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Hope that the information helps. Please do let us know whether you are able to retrieve the icon to the Action center. If the issue still persists, we will be glad to assist you.

    Thank you.

Low Audio Volume when listening songs

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I appreciate the efforts taken by you in resolving this issue. Thank you for providing the detailed information. I understand that you get low audio level while playing songs.

Ideally, the level of audio depends on the type of the audio file that you are playing. However, I would suggest you to try using the Audio Enhancements, which will boost the audio level and help you get a better audio experience. Refer the steps mentioned
    below:

    1. Press Windows Logo key + R, to open
      Run dialog box.
    2. Type mmsys.cpl and click on
      OK
      .
    3. Under Playback tab, double click on the sound device that you are using.
    4. Click on Enhancements tab.
    5. Select the checkbox for Loudness Equalization.
    6. Click on OK.

If the issue persists, you may want to try updating the Audio drivers and check. Refer the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows Logo key + X, and select
      Device Manager.
    2. Expand Sound, Video, and Game Controllers.
    3. Right click on the Audio
      device
      and select Update Driver.

    .

You may also want to check the Audio levels for specific applications in the Volume Mixer. Refer the steps mentioned below:

    1. Right click on the Sound icon on the
      Taskbar.
    2. Select Open Volume Mixer.
    3. Now, adjust the Volume levels for the Applications as per your requirement.

    Windows 10 fails to update

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.
