Windows 10: "Personal email address can't be used for work or school account."

I've never had a work or school account. Why does this appear occasionally and how do I fix it? Thanks.

As for the part where you can connect your work address to a personal Microsoft Account (or as Microsoft words it - adding your work or school email to your Outlook.com account)

It states the following underneath:

• You cannot add an alias that is already associated with another Microsoft account.
  
• You can't add an email address that's already associated with a work or school account as an alias.
  

This is good as I would always want my private personal data and my business data kept separate.

 

How do I delete a Work or School account that does not exist?

I am continuously annoyed when I log into any of a half dozen Microsoft services because when I enter my personal email address Microsoft thinks I am using the same email address to log into both a Personal account and a Work or School account set up by
some IT Department.

This is impossible because I have never worked or gone to school anywhere that would have given me an account using my personal email address. In fact this personal email address didn't even exist before I retired five years ago, moved to Florida, and opened
an ISP account here.

So, I tried to log into that Work or School account to fix the problem. That login was rejected, and after using the access help link with that personal mail address plus captcha, it quit with the error message, "The user ID
you entered does not exist. Please check that you have typed your user ID correctly."

Yes, I presumably have the option with the link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/11545/microsoft-account-rename-your-personal-account,
but this is unacceptable. My primary email address is used to log into a half a dozen devices, into multiple Microsoft services, and into about a hundred other online accounts. In any case, the instructions on that page don't work:

Step 1 goes to my info page,

Step 2 asks me to select, "Manage your sign-in email or phone number."

Step 3 already shows my personal email address and

Step 4 shows that personal email address is already marked as primary alias.

Step 5 to "Select Remove next to your work email address to remove it from your account" cannot be performed because no other work or school email address shown.

So how do I get Microsoft to stop offering a Work or School account that does not exist?

For the last few weeks I've been trying to solve why when I sign in to Microsoft online services with my personal email address I am met with the following message:

It looks like this email address is being used with more than one account from Microsoft. Which one do you want to use?

Work or School Account

Created by your IT dept

or

Personal Account

Created by you

I had a completely different work related email address. Are both email addresses (business & personal) linked together in some way and used for logging into the same accounts for Microsoft services or are they completely separate and it is just a bug from
Microsoft?
