Windows 10: Phantom desktop icons added to my HTPC desktop.

I just did a clean install of Windows 10 v2004. When install was complete there was a whole host of mostly blank tile iconsshortcuts that appeared on my desktop. Most had names and the name all matched programs that I have installed on another PC. I didn't want any of them and I want to get rid of them. I know how to get rid of iconsshortcuts, but I want to make sure all the associated program files are gone from computer. I could not find the the program files and only a few would actually run. Secondly how do I keep this from reoccurring. These are two totally different machines that are used for entirely different purposes!

Remove Linux Desktop Icons

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.

 

Desktop Icons Won't Stay Put

As per the issue description I understand that you are facing issues with desktop icons.

I suggest you try the following step in order to arrange the icons.

• Right click on the desktop.
• Click on view
• Check the option auto arrange icons.

Removing desktop icons

the icons are located in 'all users' folder somewhere (for example, i see a few shared icons in "C:\Users\Public\Desktop" )

The only way to fix those, is to remove the icons from there, and place them on to each users desktops manually. an admin may need to do this.
