Windows 10: Philips SHB5500 Connectivity Issue w/ PC

This post is to provide a solution to the connectivity issue between the Philips SHB5500 bluetooth stereo headphones and a pc.

To connect:

1. Turn on bluetooth on PC

2. press and HOLD the power button on the headphones, until the LED light begins to flash blue and white (at this point, the device is on and searching for connections)

3. From settings: devices -> bluetooth -> Add bluetooth or device -> Bluetooth

4. Wait a few seconds, and then a device named 'Philips SHB5500' should pop up.

5. Click on it & press connect.

6. WELL DONE YOU ARE NOW CONNECTED

Other headphones are still working, it's all about the Philips SHB5500 headset and associated driver. I still think MS driver updates caused this problem. The MS HFP 97 looks problematic.

Philips doesn't supply drivers for the SHB5500, I've checked. It's always the "other guys fault" under that policy.

In this case I think they are correct, it worked until an update killed the function. MS doesn't issue error codes in device manager when updating drivers fail, it just says they found the driver or not, or something prevents installation in some cases.
My experiments enabling and disabling different drivers hasn't worked either. I'm using the device trouble shooter as well. I get updates from HP as well, there is a driver update from Intel/Bluetooth I've been working on as well. One hand may not know what
the other is doing and creating conflicts with drivers. It's happened before and the WIn10 rollout has been a driver mess IMOHO.

I've been remote as well, when I get home I can try other bluetooth devices. I only have the SHB5500 with me, it still works on the IOS phone.

HP Envy 4-1030 Circa 2012, not win 10 tested by HP, 64 bit. I've had the headphones a few months and they worked, still work with iphone. failed 6/20 after a series of Win10 updates that knocked out bluetooth functions completely, I rolled back with Restore
to 6/14 and bluetooth devices came back but the SHB5500 can't run driver. Win10 can find driver updates but has an error installing them.

I tried deleting devices, rebooting for the reinstall but bluetooth doesn't come back via that method.

HP doesn't offer drivers on this topic for this machine.

The only sound I've had for years now are via bluetooth headphones, the Beats audio or standard board speakers failed long ago. Regardless, this looks like an update conflict...MS issue. Philips doesn't offer drivers either.

Here are all the companies potentially involved; MS, Philips, HP, Bluetooth. The fact that I can roll back via restore and at least get the device list back makes it seem very MS centered.

I can't seem to screen shot (snipping device is ****) but the "other devices" are impacted; audio device on high def audio bus (twice), audio snk, hp truvision hd, ms hfp audio device 97, realtec pci GBE game family contoller. I'm sure there could be conflicts
and will experiment with disabling some as I go.
